Lately, all I have been listening to is music by artists that haven't been around long. So, I was wondering if there are other people on the BBS that have gotten into some of these artists. What I mean by "recent artist" is a band or solo act that still releases albums on a regular basis and for the most part have only been around for the last 15 years or so (although 2 of my top 10 have been around longer than that, one has been around for 21 years). So groups like Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin are out because they haven't released albums on a regular basis (recently) and they have been around since the '60s. The same goes for Dylan and Neil Young - granted they have released albums this decade but they both got their start in the '60s as well. My top 10: 1) Wilco 2) Interpol 3) Sigur Ros 4) Beck (first official album released in 1994) 5) Radiohead 6) The Flaming Lips (first official album released in 1986) 7) Coldplay 8) Bloc Party 9) Keane 10) The Killers BTW, does anyone own The Killers' 2nd album, "Sam's Town"? If you do, what did you think about it?
You know how I know you're gay? ... I have actually LOST alot of interest in music. Its so weak now. All I listen to now is Blues, Carlos Santana, and Jedi Mind Tricks.
I can't put them in an order, but here goes The Rakes Maximo Park Wilco Franz Ferdinand Death Cab for Cutie The Decemberists Arcade Fire Interpol Wolf Parade Of Montreal
Well I don't exactly "own" it, but I enjoyed it. It sounds a little more grown up than their first album. Have you heard their new single Shadowplay for their new Sawdust album? I heard it's a cover to some song I don't know. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qu0RRl_KGN0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qu0RRl_KGN0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Arcade Fire Arctic Monkeys The Decemberists Editors Explosions in the Sky Interpol Minus the Bear Modest Mouse Muse The National The Shins Manny, I think Sam's Town is better than Hot Fuss.
It's a Joy Division cover. Based on the video, I take it they use the Killers version in Control? Seems rather odd since its an Ian Curtis biopic.
I must be turning into an old fart because lately I haven’t been listening to anything put out after 1997.
Hot Fuss is better if you like a new wave sound which is why I think it's better than Sam's Town. Sawdust is pretty damn good by itself too.
From what I read, "Sam's Town" was heavily influenced by Bruce Springsteen and somewhat U2. I like both Springsteen and U2 but both of them have stuff that I don't really care for, so I am really hoping that the Springsteen influence is more like "Born to Run" than "Tunnel of Love" and the U2 influence is more like "War" or even "Achtung Baby" than "Zooropa". I thought my copy of "Sam's Town" would be here today - but it is not. Guess I will have to wait til Monday.
there are more, but these are the only ones i can think of right now. i got a 400+ real cd collection all that remains shadows fall evanescence
Currently stuck in the rotation- Dirty on Purpose Band of Horses Citizen Cope Blaqk Audio My Morning Jacket Oceansize Sharon Jones and the Dapp Kings The Stills Silversun Pickups Radiohead- In Rainbows (A+++++)
It is influenced by Springsteen (you can tell right off the bat by "When We Were Young") and I'm pretty sure most will agree that Sam's Town is better than Hot Fuss, it's just the new-wave nerd in me that likes Hot Fuss more. Sawdust is a B-sides album that blends both of their first two albums together IMO. It has the Joy Division cover "Shadowplay", "Tranquilize" with Lou Reed and "Sweet Talk" is just plain awesome.
First of all, I can't consider anything like Beck, much less the Flaming Lips "recent." Second, the Killers cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay" comes during the closing credits of Control. It's pretty silly to include it in the movie at all, in my opinion. Finally, "recent" bands I've been listening to lately: Les Savy Fav New Young Pony Club LCD Soundsystem A Place to Bury Strangers Black Ice Bit By Bats Gogol Bordello Hot Chip Moving Units The Weegs Chromatics Glass Candy Mirage Farah Bonde do Role The Field
I hear ya; however, I classified them as "recent" because they are 2 acts in which their latest studio albums are eagerly anticipated with baited breath by such entities as pitchfork. And as great as both "The Soft Bulletin" and "Yoshimi" was, I am finding myself liking "At War With the Mystics" the best.
Radiohead Explosions in the Sky Broken Social Scene Arcade Fire Sigur Ros The National Do Make Say Think Liars White Stripes Beta Band Sparklehorse
Okay my copy of "Sam's Town" came yesterday. I've listened all the way through it 3 times and it's an album that grows on you with repeated listens. Could definitely tell the Springsteen and U2 influences - pretty solid album but like steddinotayto, I am a new wave nerd so I still like "Hot Fuss" better. But I am happy with "Sam's Town" and I think it is a good album that The Killers have done. I look forward to 2 things: 1) Their 3rd album 2) Mr. Brightside's post for this thread
