You mean The Bootleg Series, Vol. 1-3. Tangled Up in Blue isn't on The Basement Tapes. It wasn't even written until years after Basement Tapes came out. If you like those two, you should check the version from Real Live in which he changes a bunch of the lyrics and sings it mostly as an observer rather than a participant in the main affair. He brings himself into the story in the second to last verse ("I lived with them on Montague Street...") finishing not with "We always did feel the same, we just saw it from a different point of view" but "We always did love the very same one, we just saw her from a different point of view." Only Dylan could completely re-write one of his best songs ever and make it better.
On a sad note Suze Rotolo, Bob Dylan's Girlfriend and the Muse Behind Many of His Greatest Songs, Dead at 67 http://www.rollingstone.com/music/n...any-of-his-greatest-songs-dead-at-67-20110227 Suze Rotolo, Bob Dylan's girlfriend in the early-Sixties, who walked arm-in-arm with the songwriter on the iconic cover of The Freehweelin' Bob Dylan, died February 24th after a long illness. She was 67. Rotolo was the muse behind many of Dylan's early love songs, including "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," "Boots of Spanish Leather" and "Tomorrow Is a Long Time." She was just 17 when they began dating in 1961, shortly after Dylan arrived in New York City. "I once loved a woman, a child I'm told," he wrote in "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." "I gave her my heart, but she wanted my soul."
My favorite Dylan song will probably not be mentioned by any others it never is. "Joker Man" That's my favorite. I've always thought that ever since I was a little kid. I still do. I understand that it isn't most people's favorite, but I do think it's under rated no matter how you look at it.
nobody mentioned isis yet? epic song/great lyrics-story/violin/good drinkin' song w/ the 3/4 waltz time - dylan looking creepy as hell singing this one on the rolling thunder review show. <div style="width:450px;background-color:white;padding: 0 0 5px;"><div style="clear:both;width:450px;height:405px;"><object width="450" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.timsah.com/getswf/v2/q0QVrVl6x7x"/><param name="WMode" value="Transparent"/><param name="allowFullscreen" value="true"/><param name="scale" value="exactfit"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><embed src="http://www.timsah.com/getswf/v2/q0QVrVl6x7x" wmode="transparent" allowfullscreen="true" scale="exactfit" allowscriptaccess="always" width="450" height="405" name="player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/></object></div><div style="clear:both;"><div style="float:left;width:100px;margin-top:2px;"><a href="http://www.timsah.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.timsah.com/v2/img/logo.embed.1.png" width="80" height="15" border="0" style="border:none;" alt="Timsah.com"/></a></div><div style="float:right;width:350px;margin-top:2px;text-align:right;font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;">İzleyin: <a href="http://www.timsah.com/Bob-Dylan-Like-A-Rolling-Stone-1966/NT0QTQlCOzy" target="_blank" style="font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;color:#1D4371;text-decoration:underline;"></a></div></div><div style="clear:both;"><!--//--></div></div> of his later stuff, my favorite song is sugar baby - "sugar baby get on down the road, you aint got no brains no how. you went years w/out me, might as well keep going now." 60's - tombstone blues
Sad news about Suze. Bringing this thread back up reminds me of another great song - probably the greatest song on his worst album: "Brownsville Girl" - an absolute mind-blowing song.
Like a rolling stone Knockin on Heavens Door. I know those are the easy ones but I like some of the covers that other bands have done more than Dylan's versions.
