One of my favorite songs ever Everlast - What It's like We've all seen the man at the liquor store beggin' for your change The hair on his face is dirty, dreadlocked and full of mange He ask the man for what he could spare with shame in his eyes Get a job you fu**** slob's all he replied God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes 'Cause then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues Then you really might know what it's like Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom who said he was in love He said don't worry about a thing baby doll I'm the man you've been dreamin' of But three months later he said he won't date her or return her call And she sweared god damn if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his b**ls And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walkin' through the doors They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner, and they call her a w**** God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes 'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose Then you really might know what it's like I've seen a rich man beg I've seen a good man sin I've seen a tough man cry I've seen a loser win And a sad man grin I heard an honest man lie I've seen the good side of bad And the down side of up And everything between I licked the silver spoon Drank from the golden cup Smoked the finest green I stroked daddies dimes at least a couple of times Before I broke their heart You know where it ends Yo, it usually depends on where you start I knew this kid named Max He used to get fat stacks out on the corner with drugs He liked to hang out late at night Liked to get sh*t faced And keep pace with thugs Until late one night there was a big gun fight Max lost his head He pulled out his chrome .45 Talked some sh*t And wound up dead Now his wife and his kids are caught in the midst of all of his pain You know it crumbles that way At least that's what they say when you play the game God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news 'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to lose Then you really might know what it's like To have to lose...
Written in 1965, it is still relevant today... Eve of Destruction The eastern world it tis explodin', violence flarin', bullets loadin', you're old enough to kill but not for votin', you don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin', and even the Jordan river has bodies floatin', but you tell me over and over and over again my friend, ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction. Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say? Can't you see the fear that I'm feeling today? If the button is pushed, there's no running away, There'll be noone to save with the world in a grave, take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy, but you tell me over and over and over again my friend, ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction. Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin', I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin', I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation, handful of Senators don't pass legislation, and marches alone can't bring integration, when human respect is disintegratin', this whole crazy world is just too frustratin', and you tell me over and over and over again my friend, ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction. Think of all the hate there is in Red China! Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama! Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space, but when you return, it's the same old place, the poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace, you can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace, hate your next-door-neighbour, but don't forget to say grace, and you tell me over and over and over and over again my friend, ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.
Always gets a laugh outta me. I love the Toadies so Possum Kingdom and Tyler are always good icebreakers on a date. If your a murdering stalker that is. Always thought the Toadies were underrated. Not a great band but I didn't really find a bad song in their first album and found them all catchy in their own way.
Tupac has many classics: Shed so many tears among many others (Tupac's Greatest Hits album would be a good start). Tupac - Changes I see no changes, wake up in the morning and I ask myself Is life worth living, or should I blast myself I'm tired of being poor, and even worse I'm black my stomach hurts, so I'm looking for a purse to snatch Cops give a damn about a negro pull a trigger, kill a ******, he's a hero Givin back to the kids, who the hell cares one less hungry mouth on the welfare first ship them dope, let them deal to brothers give them guns, step back and watch them kill each other It's time to fight back, that's what Huey said 2 shots in the dark, now Huey's dead I got love for my brothers but we can never go nowhere unless we share with each other we gotta start makin changes learn to see me as a brother instead of 2 distant strangers and that's how it's supposed be how can you tell them take a brother if he's close to me I'd love to go back to when we played as kids but things change, and that's the way it is I see no changes all I see is racist faces misplaced hate, makes disgrace the racist we under, I wonder what it takes to make this one better place, let's erase the wasted take the evil out the people, they'll be actin right cuz both black and white are smokin crack tonight and the only time we chill is when we kill each other it's takes skill to be real, time to heal each other and I know it's seems Heaven since we aint ready, to see a black president it aint a secret of a sealed up fact penetentiarys packed, and it's filled with blacks but some things will never change tried to show another way, but ya stayin in the dope game now tell me what's a mother to do? being real don't appeal to the brother in you - yeah - You gotta operate the easy way - I made a G today - but you made it in a sleezy way sellin crack to the kids - I gotta get paid - well hey, well that's the way it is we gotta make a change it's time for us as a people to start making some changes lets change the way we eat lets change the way live lets change the way we treat each other see our old way wasn't working so it's on us to do what we gotta do to survive and still I see no changes, can't a brother get a little peace? there's war on the streets and the war in the Middle East instead of war on poverty they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me and I aint never did a crime I aint have to do but now I'm back from the locks givin back to you don't let them jack you up back you up crack you up and pimp smack you up you gotta learn to hold your own they get jealous when see you with your mobile phone but tell the cops they can't touch this I don't trust this when they try to rush I bust this that's the sound of my tool you say it aint cool but momma didn't raise no fool and as long as I stay black I gotta stay strapped and I never get to lay back cuz I always gotta worry bout the payback some punk that I ruffed up way back comin back after all these years rat-tat-tat-tat-tat, that's the way it is
Fumbling his confidence And wondering why the world has passed him by Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments And failed attempts to fly, fly We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Somewhere we live inside We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Dreaming about Providence And whether mice or men have second tries Maybe we've been livin with our eyes half open Maybe we're bent and broken, broken We want more than this world's got to offer We want more than this world's got to offer We want more than the wars of our fathers And everything inside screams for second life, yeah We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? We were meant to live We were meant to live
But I do like you, and you like me too I'm ready, let's do it baby - Weezer, "Falling For You" It may not look like much, but if you've heard it, you know. This one literally gives me chills: These mist-covered mountains Are home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Someday you'll return to Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn to be brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire I've witnessed your suffering As the battle raged higher And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me, my brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones *AMAZING GUITAR DIVE* Now the sun's gone to hell And the moon's ridin' high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line on your palm We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms - Dire Straits, "Brothers in Arms" Damn.
"Give me my money back, give me my money back you b**** I want my money back And don't forget to give me back my black T-shirt" -Ben Folds "Yeah, now I'm big and important One angry dwarf and 200 solemn faces are you If you really want to see me check the papers and the TV Look who's telling who what to do Kiss my ass goodbye" -Ben Folds
You know of any coming up? I bought American Water on the advice of a friend, and needless to say I was blown away. Natural Bridge came next. I only have those two albums but they are absolutely great. It's awesome you got to hang out with them.
"Rescue Is Coming" CD:A Collision by David Crowder Band Lyrics: There’s a darkness in my skin My cover’s wearing thin, I believe I’d love to start again, go back to innocent And never leave Don’t give up now A break in the clouds We could be found There’s nothing wrong with me It’s just that I believe things could get better And there’s nothing wrong with love I think it’s just enough to believe Rescue is coming Rescue is coming Rescue is coming Rescue is coming And there’s nothing wrong with you And nothing left to do But believe something bigger And there’s nothing wrong with love I know it’s just enough to believe Don’t give up now A break in the clouds We will be found Rescue is coming now http://www.myspace.com/davidcrowderband
This song is so great. On his "Live" album, it's just him, his piano and the crowd singing along, amazing.
I LOVE Ben Folds/BFF. That's one talented Mofo. I've really been listening to a lot of them lately. "I'm rockin' the suburbs Just like Jon Bon Jovi did I'm rockin' the suburbs Except that he was talented I'm rockin' the suburbs Take the checks and face the facts Some producer with computers fixes all my sh1tty tracks"
