The stranded on an island factor altered the list a bit. It'd be cool to have a list for that from any time period. That one would be REALLY hard to pick. It'd be full of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Grunge music. 311 - From Chaos 50 Cent - Get Rich or Die Tryin' Audioslave - Audioslave Coldplay - X&Y Dave Matthews Band - Central Park Concert (not a studio album but it fit the criteria otherwise) Garbage - Bleed Like Me Green Day - American Idiot Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams Ludacris - The Red Light District Muse - one of their CD's, not sure which Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium Stone Temple Pilots - Shangri-La Dee Da (fortunately I can get something in from my favorite band not named Led Zeppelin) System of a Down - Toxicity T.I. - King Velvet Revolver - Contraband The White Stripes - White Blood Cells Young Jeezy - Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101
It got a lot of my friends to start opening up to rap. It's merits as a hip-hop starter album are undeniable.
ive been a casual fan of rap music for 20 years. what the black album did was get me open up to jay-z. i never liked jay-z till i heard danger mouse's grey album and that got me to buy the black album than i went back and listened to the older stuff.
Off the top of my head... Ok, gave it enough thought to know how much I forgot The Delgados - 'Hate' (probably my favorite in 2k) King of Leon - 'Youth and Young Manhood' The Flaming Lips - 'At War With the Mystics' The Jayhawks - 'Rainy Night Music' My Morning Jacket - 'It Still Moves' Interpol - 'Turn on the Bright Lights' Brian Wilson - 'Smile' The Strokes - 'Is This It' Anna Waronker - 'Anna' The Delgados - 'The Great Eastern' Hey, Manny... The Byrds are pretty cool. Their best album is Gene Clarks 'No Other'
i mean its a good album.....but when you're talkin about music of the whole decade we can both agree the black album is no reasonable doubt
man, if they liked black album, tell your friends to listen to Reasonable Doubt best RAP starter album ever is Bone Thugs N Harmony Eternal East1999
3 posts in a row but im sorry......there is not enough Lupe Fiasco love....prolly the album of the year. too many ppl are caught up in beats these days. listen to the lyrics...
I agree with Lupe. Hip Hop didn't have a good year in '06, but Lupe was one of the bright spots.I would also add the albums Just Tryin' ta Live, and To Tha X-Treme by Devin the Dude.

Lupe was a nice brightspot this year. Right up there with Spank Rock. But I think Plastic Little's She's Mature and Clipse's Hell Have No Fury were superior. In fact I was torn in not including Plastic Little's album. I got it in Dec. So it's relatively still new for me.
I barely know Spank Rock and Plastic Little through myspace. There are a lot of good artists out there that are under the radar. Just like the San Antonio group Mojoe. Their '06 album Classic. Ghetto. Soul. has become one of my favorites. http://www.myspace.com/mojoefamily
