Lyle Lovett and His Large Band - Lutcher Theater, Orange, TX

Nothing else has come close enough to mention, though I've seen a few of the bands on other people's list.

not the Best but the most Powerful for me would be King Sunny Ade in Lagos.

the sound system was poor but the atmosphere was unmatched; a mix of a little fear/discomfort w/an incredible atmosphere of pure joy & celebration

It's between Taylor Wayne and Jenna Jamison... in the late 90s... and I think it was at the RITZ on 45, though I don't remember exactly. It was a good performance on both girls' parts.

I hope "El Hitman" has good live performances in the future.

I can't believe we live in the same neighborhood and have not gotten together to watch a game live.

    Damn, how old ARE you?

My dad used to tell me he saw Jimi Hendrix in Jones Hall opening for Janis Joplin. He says no one there knew quite what to think of him.

Scratch Acid is coming through Houston in a few months. I hope Fitz is handicap-friendly.

Parents have a house there...my family has been based in Benin City since 1970. Lots of Mediterraneans in Nigeria...especially in the 70s & 80s (Hakeem used to play in a sports league sponsored by Leventis).

I grew up there but moved away for secondary school in France, though i would go back to visit at least once a year (still do).

    It would have to be:

*Pink Floyd at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento
*Rock Bowl 10 in Orlando at the Tangerine Bowl - the best part was when BOC played and their giant Godzilla caught the stage on fire.
*Stevie Ray Vaughan at Concorde Pavilion in CA
*REM at Santa Barbara Bowl, SB, CA
*Pearl Jam with surprise guest Chris Cornell at SB Bowl
*311 & The Offspring at the MidState Fair in Paso Robles, CA
*Rush at the Tacoma Dome in WA
*BB King at the Woodlake Tavern in Sacramento
*The Beat Farmers in San Luis Obispo, CA
*The Bridge School Benefit Concert at the Shoreline Ampitheatre

Unfortunately, Fitz is probably the exact opposite of handicap-friendly. You might need to drive to Austin to see Scratch Acid (at the new Emo's East). Scratch Acid is definitely worth the drive...

[feels dumb for leaving Scratch Acid off his list...]

Ima, I don't doubt that your dad saw Janis, or that he saw Jimi, but to the best of my knowledge, he didn't see them play the same bill at Jones Hall. In fact, Hendrix never played there. Janis may have (she played Houston more than once), but I don't recall that being a venue for her. Perhaps you (or your dad), just have things a bit mixed up. God knows, it was a crazy time and I have hell remembering who played with whom (or Who!), as there were usually 3 or 4 groups at each gig, and multiple venues. If you're luckier than I am, and he's still living, pump him for all the info you can about those days. They (our parents) aren't around forever, as I've found out. :)-

DD, there's a good reason for that. I prefer to remain anonymous, and I can too readily imagine you being "in your cups" some evening and uncorking a new DD video, "Conversations with Members of the BBS!" for the GARM, with Deckard being right there in living color. With sincere respect and affection, I have to say that you're too verbose for me to take the risk. My life isn't entirely my own. If I were "public" here, I would lose my freedom to say what I please, along with a bazillion posts here to dig through, should someone wish to bother doing so. Otherwise, I'd love to watch a game with you. Heck, numerous games. I have no doubt that I would enjoy it immensely.

Tornado Rider at Suwannee Springfest. Started partying just before the show, ended up getting hit by a golf cart driven by the group's front man while I was riding a bike to another show. Ended up partying with the band. Drank some moonshine, got some ass. Fun times.

Back around the mid 70s buds and I went to the Thunder Chicken in northern Grand Rapids. We were a bit "sloshed" as we walked through the doors paying our $5 cover.

"What????? $5 for a show! Who's playing? Better be somebody we know!!!!"

The guy pointed to a poster with four guys wearing black & silver space suits and over applied makeup.

What's their name we asked. "Can't you read, it's Kiss"

KISS!!?!?!?!?! What fool band would name themselves Kiss???????

We laughed and went to score a good table, which was up front since we got there too early.

We drank. And drank. They eventually came out about an hour late so we were really feeling our oats.

I swear to god, ten minutes after they came out we were standing on our chairs banging anything we can grab and stomping like crazy.

That was the most kick-ass show I have ever seen. Totally blew us away.

Up to that point I was a Genesis fan and would have said "Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" concert would have been the best. But this show kick-my butt up and down the isles.
