Been meaning to check out the Decemberists new one. That OP list might be good, but I haven't heard of any of it aside from on here... so hard to imagine it's the best of 2009 by any semblance of generic approved standards, which makes this a cleverly disguised "insert snide music comment here" thread.
Since those sources are equally unfamiliar, and clicking on them didn't really confirm anything at a glance, I'll assume you miss my point... or don't care for it. That's alright, lots of folks disagree with me all the time about a lot of things. To clarify, I'm not saying they're not the best or even good, just seems a list of at least somewhat obscure music. I'm alright with obscure, as well, I just was commenting on the irony of (in my eyes) obscure bands/music being recognized as the best of 2009. Maybe they are, popularity and recognition are not synonymous with greatness... just usually in the same neighborhood eventually. Doesn't make me think they're no good, nor is that my point, I just have never heard [of] any of it aside from here. Maybe now I will.
I understood where you were coming from[i think]. I wasn't tryin to say that these bands were reviewed as good, or best of 09, just that they probably aren't as obscure as you might think. At least 5 people have heard of them seriously, have a listen, tell me what you think. It may not be your cup of tea...but you never know, you might hear something you like....
cool! glad you liked it. I checked out Rural Alberta Advantage....after the first two songs, "in the summertime" and "don't haunt this"....I'm pleasantly surprised, didn't think I'd get into this "folky" type of sound, but I'm really looking forward to the rest of the album. thanks a lot.
Wolf Parade symbolizes everything that is just and beautiful in life. One of my greatest experiences of the past few years, was having a conversation with Spencer Krug a while back. He might be the hardest working man in indie rock, since he is in 4 bands and has released three albums with a different band in the past year. He is also one of the nicest people you can meet. One of my greatest regrets in life was missing a Handsome Furs concert at SXSW in 2008. I went to the wrong venue at the time, and I missed the whole show. I was crushed at the time and still am somewhat crushed. It is a sore point to this day, since I wasn't able to attend SXSW in 2009 while they played again this year. I still haven't seen Handsome Furs play live. I did get to see Wolf Parade perform on back to back nights in NYC in 2008 and also Sunset Rubdown on back to back nights a few months later. I'm in love with the modern world.
I prefer the Buzzcocks to Joy Division and all, but they have no more to do with the other than Jimi Hendrix and Heart.
My favorite albums in 2009 so far 1. Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs -"It's Blitz" 2. Amadou and Mariam- "Welcome to Mali" 3. Animal Collective- "Merriweather Post Pavillion" 4. Elvis Costello- "Secret, Profane and Sugar Cane" 10. Flaming Lips- "Embryonic"
