Clutchfans need your help here - I am seriously behind in getting new music (music released this year). This year is nowhere close to 2011 although some strong albums are going to come out eventually in Sigur Ros, Beach House, Animal Collective, and Grizzly Bear. List the albums that have come out in 2012 that are already out - the ones I have come up with are as follows: Leonard Cohen's latest Bruce Springsteen's latest The second album by Big Pink The second album by Sleigh Bells The latest by Shins And that is it so far. I am especially interested in indie rock releases (moes, Brightside, etc.).
Paralytic Stalks - of Montreal <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Uxs2jNavEUk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/64D0On9M5Ac" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> imo an underrated album. dark, eclectic, and the lyrics are just stunning. czech it out!
Some great albums, but a lot of disappointments so far I feel. For me my early album of the year is iLikeTrains- The Shallows. Other great albums have been: Memoryhouse- The Slideshow Effect Grimes- Visions Lower Dens- Nootropics Burial- Kindred EP Bowerbirds- The Clearing Tanlines- Mixed Emotions Princeton- Remembrance of Things to Come Trust- TRST The Shins- Port of Morrow Chairlift- Something If I were to pick the top 4. It would be iLikeTrains, Trust, Princeton, Grimes and Memoryhouse. I have been somewhat disappointed with releases by: Beach House: Bloom Air- Le Voyage De La Dune Islands- A Sleep and Forgetting Moonface (Spencer Krug)- With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery Undecided so far on: The Shins- Port of Morrow Miike Snow- Happy to You The biggest letdown was the Moonface album. Normally anything that Spencer Krug (of Wolf Parade) touches is gold. This new album seems a bit generic. I'm really looking forward to the new Sun Kil Moon. The two preview tracks he released are amazing. Also new Grizzly Bear. Dan Rossen of Grizzly Bear did release a solo album this year entitled Silent Hour. Also, I got to see Purity Ring at SXSW. This was one of the buzz bands this year at the festival. Their set was one of the best I had ever seen at any SXSW of any year. They don't have an album as yet, but it's going to be amazing from what I gathered listening to their live show. It should be out later this year.
^ Brightside, Thanks for the post. Finally broke down and bought some albums yesterday including Sleigh Bells' "Reign of Terror", Big Pink's second album, and Grimes. But the best one I have heard (haven't listened to it all the way through yet) is the latest by Spiritualized. That is my early favorite for album of the year. Still looking forward to releases by Beach House, Sigur Ros, Animal Collective, and Grizzly Bear. Also read that new releases are slated to come out this year from Fiona Apple, The Killers, and Bloc Party!
Go see Sleigh Bells live just once and you'll instantly cease to be a fan. Terrrrrible. I've also been somewhat behind on checking out new music this year. But of those I have listened to, Grimes - Visions is my #1. Oh and yes, the new Spiritualized is a good one. Only listened through it a few times, but it sounds great. Brightside - I didn't think the Lower Dens album had been released yet? Guess I need to go do some looking. I've liked the 2 tracks I've heard so far.
Flying Colors - s/t (prog supergroup composed of Mike Portnoy, Dave LaRue, Casey McPherson, Neal Morse and Steve Morse) Train - California 37 All American Rejects - Kids in the Street Candlebox - Love Stories and other Musings Waiting for 2012 releases from Offspring and Matchbox 20.
Beach House's "Bloom" is one of their best if not the best release from them. It took me a couple listens for it all to click and appreciate each song so make sure you do the same. You wont be disappoint.
Grimes- Visions is definently a guilty pleasure. Others I've enjoyed so far this year: Lotus Plaza - Spooky Action At A Distnace for fans of Deerhunter (Lockett Pundt's solo project) Miike Snow - Happy To You not as many fantastic songs as the first album, but I would say much stronger overall
You mean, they're just a studio act? I could understand why, as most of their songs are so heavy with production gimmicks. (Not a bad thing, IMO.) Or something else?
