http://www.aclfest.com/festival/2005_schedule/Schedulegrids05.pdf anywhere from a 1/2 hour to 1 and 1/2 hours. ive been to all 3 of them. its always been crowded, but last year was the first time where it was noticeable that it was out of hand. areas in the middle of the park that were clear of people in previous years were packed. capacity used to be 35,000/day, but this year they limited it to 25,000. that should help. friday- black crowes, lyle lovett, allman bros, grupo fantasma, spoon, lucinda williams, mates of state, asleep at the wheel. saturday- oasis (not a fan, but ill check them out), roky erickson, zap mama, dirty dozen brass band, fiery furnaces, robert randolph, buddy guy, built to spill, asylum st. spankers sunday- tortoise, wilco (my favorite band last year), decemberists, arcade fire, brave combo, m83, pong, eisley
dude, it seems like you would dig Panic if you're a allman and crowes fan.... but i guess panic can get a little too "jamband" for some folks. check em out if you haven't before (but i'm assuming you have). do yourself a favor and checkout Drive-by Truckers. pure southern rock.
Veterans... do any of ya'll use portable chairs, or is the area that they are allowed too small/out of the way?
Sure, I'll be the one in the hat and white shirt, look for me on Saturday & Sunday. See ya there! i've seen them out there, but be aware there are 'chair free' zones around the stages.
im not really an allman bros or crowes fan, per say. ive seen the black crowes a couple times and they put on a great show and as far as the allmans, they are just one of those bands i feel i should see at least once. that and the fact that warren haynes and jimmy herring are total guitar studs. im not really into any of the "jambands". i like the greatful dead, but i never got into phish or w.p. or any of the others. acl is definately alot lighter on the jambands than in years past. ill probably check out a little of the drive-by truckers, but roky erickson is playing at the same time.
Can you at least get close enough to it w/ a chair to feel it pretty good, and also not hear the other stages?
Weather Report: This week's cold front will go no farther south than north Texas (it's 57 in Amarillo right now). But there's another late next week, they don't yet know how far south it will go. ...although, they say a cold front could stall on top of us this time of the year. What's better, heat and sun or persistent rain?
I would say yes, that you can get close enough with a chair to still enjoy the show. Also, the stages are set up on the outskirts of the festival area, it's very expansive, while you can hear other stages, it's faint and can't be overheard while the stage you are in front of is active.
did that otday at work. now i wont miss some of the sets i planned on seeing, but got too drunk and forgot.
How is the parking situation over there? How far is the festival from the UT campus? Are there any shuttle buses taking you back and forth. Thanks.
