Where is Grand Funk Railroad? If I'm not mistaken, they're an American band. They're an American band. I could be wrong but they're comin' to your town, they'll help you party down. They're an American band.

oh good god...I coudnt go any further without responding...so hopefully someone with more musical knowledge has already corrected your blasphemy

just because that is all you know about them dont make them unworthy of this list(as flawed as it is)
Silent Lucidity was one of their CRAPPIEST SONGS.....their best work was everything that came before that...

Peral Jam certainly doesnt deserve to be number one...that much is a fact.

I think he is saying it isnt worth wasting time tryin to convince droxford that he doesnt have a clue about any kind of music that originates out of the 80s.

exactly...they just came thru last year and played a smaller venue that was packed to the gills...it was a great show....

did not know that...if she missed the show last year, let her know that Mindcrime II is looking good...they ended the show with a preview of it.

Geoff Tate has the best voice in rock...no one is even close...

Oh man, that subject could be it's own thread alone. I haven't heard that guy, but I don't know that I'd say no one else is even close to him. This would definitely cause for a lot of debate. I for one am gonna say that Robert Plant and Scott Weiland are the best voices in Rock.

Seriously, Red Hot Chilli Peppers not even making the list is a severe injustice..... and yeah, Pearl Jam being number 1 is total crap. I would put Aerosmith 1, and Metallica 2 based on longevity and popularity.

Nope, Tate blows them away. I have heard Halford live and he couldn't hold Tate's jock strap vocally.

nope....Geoff Tate has the most range of any vocalist out there...supposedly...he has had operatic training...and from the way he uses his voice..I believe it

Rob is a great frontman...and a damn good singer...but Tate does all that and more....

I wouldnt go as far as andy has....casue I think Rob is a helluva singer...but still...we are talking Geoff freaking Tate here...

    rockets1,
dont get me wrong...Im not tryin to lessen Plants abilities by saying this...I love Zepp...and Plant has been the model for at least two generations of rock singers...but the only tim,e Plant was close in ability was in his younger days..

there have been alot of misconceptions about what Queensryche is or was...they may have started out looking like a hair band...but that isnt what they are about AT ALL.
If I hd to put them in a genre, it would be progressive metal...their best stuff was stuff that didnt make top40...their songs that were top40 hits outside of Operation Mindcrime songs were without a doubt their weakest songs and were not indicitive of what they were truely about.

Grab any of their first 3 albums and give em a shot...they are on that list for a reason..and it wasnt for Silent LUcidity

That would leave out Mindcrime, R2K ... their definitive statement!

I think HR destroys them all. Nobody can match that intensity.

Oh, I just meant at one time or another (their prime, I guess) on studio albums, not presently. I definitely don't mean Plant today. Zepp is my favorite band and he my favorite vocalist, but even I don't like how he sounds today. So at their best, my favorite voices are Plant and Weiland.

Although I am not a Queensryche fan, I respect the posts on Tate, especially from R2K as I know he knows his stuff. I threw out Halford and Gramm because they are personal favorites of mine and there have been times that I thought glass would break while listening to a Priest song. :D

Yet, the greatest rock vocalist has always been and always will be Freddie Mercury. That is my story and I am sticking to it! :p :D

And rockets #1, I know you clarified your position on Plant because I was about to say to you: "You think the 'In the Evening' Plant was a great singer? You can't make out any of the words he is singing other than 'In the Evening'." :p  ;)

Nope, but I would be willing to set up my awesome stereo especially for the purpose of listening if you really think that he approaches Tate's vocal quality. Make plans to bring the CD over sometime, I live in Meadowgreen now.

Haha:D I just went and listened to it and never really noticed it, but now that you mention it, I really only got like half of what he was sayin'. I was listening to it while listening to the lyrics and it made more sense. I still definitely like him on Presence, this track, and the rest of the CD, but can admit he did fall off from where he once was (hard not to, though, with how awesome that was). If I remember correctly, you've said "In the Evening" is one of your top 5 songs by Led. Here's the lyrics if you're curious:

In the evening, When the day is done
I'm looking for a woman, but the girl don't come
So don't let her, Play you for a fool
She don't show no pity baby, she don't make no rules

[Chorus:] Oh, oh, I need your love, I need your love
Oh, I need your love, I just got to have

So don't you let her, Oh, get under your skin
It's only bad luck and trouble, From the day that you begin
I hear you crying in the darkness, Don't ask nobody's help
Ain't no pockets full of mercy baby, Cause you can only blame yourself

    [Chorus]

Oh it's simple, All the pain that you go through
You can turn away from fortune, fortune, Cause that's all that's left to you
It's lonely at the bottom, Man, it's dizzy at the top
But if you're standing in the middle, Ain't no way you're gonna stop

    [Chorus]

Oh whatever that your days may bring
No use hiding in a corner, Cause that won't change a thing
If you're dancing in the doldrums, One day soon, it's got to stop, it's got to stop
When you're the master of the off-chance, When you don't expect a lot

    [Chorus]

I just saw Plant a few weeks ago and while he isnt the Plant of 1973, he still tears the house down.
