Yeah, that's one example of the many things wrong with this list. Eric and Cream were terrific when I saw them, but is this a "top ten solo?" I think not and I also think Clapton would agree that it is not. Another example is one Frank Zappa solo at #60, yet there are numerous solos from artists that couldn't carry Frank's water. Some I was pleased to see, like Mick Ronson's fantastic job on Moonage Daydream, from Bowie's Ziggy Stardust.

This might be an example of where the killer solo was in the live version of the song. Lynyrd Skynyrd did a scorching live rendition.

I don't know if these two are in the top 100 cause I haven't looked at entire list. But these two solos are worth mentioning in my opinion.

Dazed and Confused - Led Zeppelin

I think part of the problem is that you had albums limited, if one disc, to a little over 40 minutes, both sides combined. If they had had longer playing media on which to put their music, we would probably have a bit different legacy to enjoy. I dearly love vinyl, but that time factor was a real limitation. Groups regularly played songs far longer in concert than what you typically heard on the record. What was most affected by that? Guitar solos. Extended, fabulous guitar solos in concert on songs that had relatively short solos on the record.

I don't play guitar but I've heard a lot of people who do say that noel gallagher's solos are pretty easy to play.... but i think they sound really awesome which is all that matters to me.
