A really fast way to lose credibility is to link to huffingtonpost.com on a daily basis. What, was dailykos running too slow? Eco-nazi.com, tax-till-you-giggle.com, and Rove-Cheney-in-love.com must have all been running too slow for you to have gotten the latest updates from there...
Come on, Trader _J! I barely smiled. Surely you can do better than that. And at least include some balance, like The Sludge Report. They are fair and balanced, right? Trim Bush!
Facts are so biased, right? If you'll put your degree to work and read my post, you'll see that the only thing I quoted from the article were Murtha's actual, real quotes. Nice little rant though. Reminds me of my 5 yo when she was 3.
I think the problem is the difference between "will" and "should" it sounds like Biden is saying "Bush should be impeached" which is very different than him saying "Bush will be impeached" and he (Biden) is the one to do it. Biden can advocate and investigate for impeachment but he can't get it going. Leaving aside that Biden should keep in mind that Bush legally can order bombing of Iran or even comitt troops to Iran without Congressional approval under the War Powers act.
To be fair: This IS a reversal on Murtha's part. Putting the 'whole' quote doesn't change that - Basso's assertion is not taking Murtha 'out of context.' Which is irrelevant. It doesn't affect his change in position about the surge. Nor was the surge designed to revamp the central government. Which is irrelevant to whether or not the surge is working. Again Murtha clearly changed positions about that issue. Also completely irrelevant to the point of the thread and has no impact on the surge debate. One can't deny that his current position is the opposite of his earlier position. His caveats and other assertions aside, that much is apparent. Contrary to what some people on this board are asserting, what the Democrats absolutely do NOT want to do is to be unable to admit anything is going as planned or well in Iraq. Stick to the general idea that on balance we should move to get out. Otherwise you end up being just as unrealistic and unreliable as the Republicans.
Wow. Just . Wow. Context does matter. Murtha is saying that the surge is making conditions better in Iraq, but NOT advancing the stated goal which is to make political progress.
Neither our president nor his supporters understand the difference between strategy and tactics. Throughout this administration and on any number of issues, tactics have been elevated to strategy and strategy has been ignored.
Stop being silly. Who said context didn't matter. I said his point doesn't take Murtha out of context. The goal of the surge is to reduce the violence/increase stability. That's a precondition for political progress, not a cause of it.
You are understating the goal. The goal is political progress, of which there has been NONE. One could that after 9 months of surge and 1 month of less violence more time is till needed before the political sides can get going. Methinks a withdrawl timetable is the only motivation needed at this point.
No the funny thing is you are taking Murtha out of context. If 'surge working' equated to 'political progress' then he wouldn't be saying BOTH 'the surge is working' and 'there is little political progress.' Hence they are separate albeit related issues.
Or, he could be saying the O-line is playing well, but the QB is crappy and the RB keeps fumbling and the WR's are afraid to go over the middle and there's no semblance of a game plan.
