Marv Albert admitted to forcing a woman against her will to perform oral sex and as well physically assualting her (biting) and you refer to that as "sex games"?
IF calvin is found Not Guilty, then I would strongly hope that he is back broadcasting with Bill by the beginning of net season. People can talk all they want about the 'right or wrong' thing for the Rockets organization to do, but it ll comes down to the $$. If the majority of the fans want Calvin back, then Les will bring him back, simple as that. If they don't make a ruckus about it, I think there is no doubt that Les would PREFER not to have him back - heck he already fired him and re-hired him once because of fan uproar. That said, I think that when he is found innocent, it would be very wise of the Rockets to maybe bring him in during THIS season in some of the halftime segments, or after games, interviewing some of he players, that kind of thing. Get us used to seeing him again. It will make his return 1000% easier.
Here is the dirty truth about the American legal system. You are found not legally guilty, you are not found innocent. I believe Calvin will not be convicted because the defense shed enough doubt on the credibility of the daughters. Whether he did it , I don't know, I hope not. But Calvin will be tainted by the accusation either way. Add the facts that it has become common knowledge that he has fathered so many children out of wedlock and that their relationship is such that they would be compelled to conspire against him and Calvin will never be the admired Hall Of Famer who just wants to help the youth of Houston again. Those things are not nearly as bad as sexual abuse but still it is unsavory. I think Calvin and his family will be best served if he lives a more private, humble life . You Know, my stupid Gene Peterson moniker should probably not be associated with any opinions on this matter. I ain't him, I don't know him, I think I need to quit using it altogher...say goodbye to my 1500 posts.
Bump. I'd love to see him return right away, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not until next season. Gene, I don't think anybody is confusing you with the real Gene Peterson. It's just an internet BBS handle, I think it's safe for you to keep using.
The truth about the American legal system is that you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Any trial on the facts that results in a finding of not guilty is the legal equivalent of being found innocent. The truth about public perception is something else Edit: how in god's name did you get a moniker change that quick? there's like one of every 10 years?
Marv Albert was convicted of some kind of sex crime, adultery or sth. He is back in business. Murphy at least isn't guilty.
He was not convicted of anything (it just came out that he was uber-hard-core-freaky with his sex) Murph was accused of molesting females - while I think that an innocent man should be returned to his vocation, it would be seen as a bad PR move (at least THIS season) to remove the Woman's professional coach and replace him with someone accused of a sex crime against his daughters (right or wrong). Sorry guys, that is the way it is. I imangine that there are some victims rights groups that still believe him to be guilty - and right now, the Rockets might do well to let this settle down before making any moves again - I don't necessarily agree with it, but if I were in charge of the Rox I would stay with Bull and VC right now people are tuning in to watch the Rox not listen to the commentators - why put your organization through the hassle of protestors
Sorry posted in the other Thread but it's good news and have to make sure everyone knows it. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/topstory/2934203 Hall of Fame basketball player Calvin Murphy was found not guilty today of charges he molested five of his daughters. Jurors deliberated just two hours before clearing Murphy on all six counts. When the verdict was read, Murphy closed his eyes, then looked up at the ceiling. He bear-hugged defense attorney Rusty Hardin as tears rolled down his face. Four of the five daughters who had accused him of sexual abuse sat in the back row of the courtroom and cried after the verdict was read by state District Judge Michael McSpadden. The daughters declined comment as they left. The verdict was read about 4:35 p.m. Earlier today during closing arguments, prosecutors Murphy as a cheat and a child molester today, while defense attorneys maintained that the daughters were lying in an orchestrated effort to make him pay. "You can never fully repair his reputation," Hardin told jurors during closing arguments. "But you can take that first step in righting an injustice." Hardin asked jurors to find Murphy innocent of abusing five of his 10 daughters between 1988 and 1991. He faced three charges of indecency with a child and three charges of aggravated sexual assault. Prosecutors, however, labeled Murphy "a master of manipulation." "He concealed from his own wife for more than 20 years that he has four other families," prosecutor Paula Storts told jurors. "He's a liar. He's a cheat and he's a child molester." The monthlong trial's testimony phase ended last week after Murphy testified in his own defense and tearfully denied the allegations. Jurors began deliberating the case this afternoon following three hours of closing arguments. If convicted, Murphy could have faced five years to life in prison for the aggravated offenses and two to 20 years for the indecency violations. Prosecutors said Murphy tried to maintain a public image of having only one family, even though he has 14 children with nine women. He only married one of the women, according to prosecutors, and accepted her children. They said his children with the other women were told not to call him "Dad." Prosecutor Lance Long said some of the women's outcries as teenagers went unanswered and one was placed in a mental hospital after speaking out. Long claimed Murphy molested those he didn't think would tell and those whom nobody would believe. He kept the girls' mothers "under his thumb" through emotional and financial dependence on him, Long said. Murphy's attorneys say the former Houston Rocket didn't abuse any of his children. They claim the allegations by his daughters, now all adults, stem from a dispute over money and resentment over the way Murphy treated some of the children compared to others. Defense attorney Hardin said jurors shouldn't let the way Murphy lived his life influence their verdict. "Don't be sidetracked by a lot of these issues," he urged. "These are fabricated charges." He disputed prosecutors' assertion that Murphy controlled the women in his life and said, "the only power Calvin Murphy had was the power of discipline to get into the Hall of Fame at 5-foot-10. "He is a ruined man," Hardin said. "They have already won. Now, the question is whether he is going to go to the penitentiary." Defense attorneys say three of the five women have been trying to claim $52,408 in death benefits left in a Teacher Retirement System of Texas account belonging to their mother, Phyllis Davidson. Murphy had a 20-year relationship and four children with Davidson, who died in a car accident in 1996. This year, the three daughters continued their grandmother's earlier protests over Murphy receiving the benefits. He was listed as the account's beneficiary, according to court records. On Feb. 20, letters went to Murphy, his three daughters and their grandmother saying that Murphy was the account's rightful beneficiary. A month later, Murphy, 56, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse and indecency with the five daughters, including three with Davidson. Murphy was drafted in 1970 by the San Diego Rockets, who moved to Houston the following season. He quickly became a fan favorite. His 17,949 points were a franchise high until Hakeem Olajuwon passed him. Known as the "Pocket Rocket" because of his small stature, Murphy missed just nine free throws -- and made 78 straight in one stretch -- in 1980-81 for a record single-season percentage of .958.
Yes I haope comes back too but I doubt he will due to the nature of the charges regardless of the fact that he was found not guilty.
They start filing charges on these kids who accuse adults of molesting them, and find out later they lied about it then I think you would see a drop in the cases that are reported....
