Excellent! I was about to post the same thing. Rudy T was the 2nd pick of the 1st round of the 1970 draft, and Murphy led off the 2nd round of the same draft. Both picked by the Rockets, both went to the Finals with that team, both were All Stars, and both are in the Hall of Fame. The only thing that these roommates on the road didn't accomplish was a title as players for the Rocks. No bad. Not bad at all!

1970. Rudy Tomjanovich and Calvin Murphy. Bily Paultz was also selected by the Rockets in the same draft and eventually played with Rudy and Calvin in the finals for Houston in 1981.

EDIT: Too slow, but I did add the Billy Paultz factor.

The closest example to our circumstances (passed over players) are our own 2007 draft class: Scolandry and Brooks

Michael Redd was taken in Rd 2 in 2000 and Jamaal Magloire was an all-star in 2004. Plus Hedo Turkoglu had some near all-star years and Jamal Crawford won a 6th man award.

It's funny you mention David West and Josh Howard and yet say no one was all-star caliber. It's funny because both were all-stars at least once. Mo Williams was also taken in the 2nd and made an all-star team.

Lets be real, despite being an all-star, Jamaal Magloire was never an all-star caliber player.

For a brief 1-2 year period he was. 14-10 in a league with few good centers is all-star caliber.

You know, there was not a team that had a 22 game winning streak in NBA before the Rockets.
My point is, "We can make history" with our Rookies despite that there was no team with 3 rookies succeed together in the past.

The '71-'72 Lakers had a 33 game winning streak.

I actually liked Michael Redd but don't think he belonged in that group. Just my oppinion. Jamaal Maglorie was an example of how bad the center position was that season. He had one double double year and that was fairly unimpresive. That is just an indication of how really bad that draft was when those are your prized draft picks out of the draft.

Josh Howard was a dope smoking flash in the pan that put his pot ahead of the NBA Championship series he was in. He is lucky Avery Johnson did not catch him out one night and just off him.

I really like West and you can add him if you want but I just did not think he fit but no problem if you want to include him. It just adds to the example of finding all star quality players later in the draft.

I'm sure I missed others but who's counting right?

Ok, taking an example close to home, Brooks, Scola and Landry
I'd say these guys benefited coming into the league together.
Its fair to say they succeeded together (at least briefly), and probably fed of each others success.

Hoping our rooks can do this on an even higher level.

I just wondered if it wasn't a pattern on teams in general to get three young guys together and have them feed of each other on the same team, and if that isn't some kind of formula for success in development. I was just curious. Thanks for all the posts. Edifying.
