On the contrary, if the US and France took the threat of ISIS more seriously early on this wouldn't have happened. They let ISIS grow strong when they should have killed it in it's infancy.

I think we're overthinking this. Reddit is good at overthinking things.

Occam's Razor would say, because it's usually always in his wallet? It's like asking, why would a suicide bomber carry a wallet. Why *not* have ID on you?

If he wants to have a mission statement, don't suicide bombers usually make videos beforehand to have comrades release. I wouldn't rely on my ID to succeed, because it could explode into unidentifiable pieces with me.

No, the war didn't create ISIS, nor did it cause the expansion of ISIS, abandoning Iraq prematurely caused the expansion of ISIS. Sure you can blame Bush for signing the deal to remove the troops, but if you do then you still have to blame Obama for continuing a really stupid Bush plan and then campaigning on it as if it was his own doing rather than working to keep troops in Iraq to maintain stability.

It's bizarre they would carry a passport. Reminds me of the FBI somehow finding a passport of a 9/11 hijacker in all the rubble. It doesn't really add up.

haha lolz. there were tons of Islamic terrorist organizations before the war, but this one is because of the war........ brilliant. Their goal is religious cleansing and genocide (same as all the others). The Iraq war has nothing to do with it.

Why would it surprise you that a hijacker who is flying on a plane NOT in his home country had a passport? He'd have to have one. In the same vein, a hijacker or terrorist traveling on a plane would tend to buy a round trip ticket to not arouse suspicion.

He couldn't get on a plane without a passport. You didn't really think that through, I guess. But you can always fallback on claiming you were being sarcastic.

There is a reason most Middle East experts and Bush I and even Cheney before he worked with the hapless Dubya thought chaos would break lose if we destabilized Iraq.

lol Bobby and tallnver always the last to understand. Even most of the GOP field now admits Dubya's war was a mistake.

Bolded is the part that matters. Iraq wasn't destabilized by the war, it was destabilized by abandoning it prematurely. Don't worry, you can partially blame that on Bush.

I remember telling people on this very board that if we abandon Iraq it'll fall into chaos and we'll end up worse off....yet at the time the left on the board were congratulating Obama for pulling troops out.

No politician promised to stay in Iraq. You elect McCain, he'd likely still honor the status of forces agreement.

Besides blackwater mercenaries, everyone wanted a rest from that ****ty war.

The WSJ article says they think the plan was for the first bomber with the ticket to enter, set off the bomb, with the intention to create a stampede leading crowds to the other two bombers outside the stadium

Then "everyone" was short sighted and foolish, it's a common critique of democracy going back to the ancient Greeks. When the lesser argument becomes the greater in the eyes of the people, really stupid things happen. Abandoning Iraq prematurely looks to be one of those things.
