Here's one thing I've always wondered about these MTV awards:

Who actually decides the winners? With the Grammys, Oscars, Golden Globes, there is a voting body composed of people with certain credentials that nominates and then selects the victors. AFAIK, there is nothing like this for the MTV awards. The winners of each award seem to come from producers that want to stir up some sort of controversy and/or grab headlines. So, does anyone know how exactly they pick these winners?

I believe they're voted by the fans...or thats what they want you to believe.

Damn, is the hate for MTV that bad that people think there are conspiracies going on within the network? I thought it was publicly known that the all the MTV award shows have the fans voting in for the winner. Thats the best thing about it, they give the fans, the people who help these celebrities make a living, the chance to pick the winners.

Shouldn't it be like that with all the award shows? We are the ones that are paying for the movies or albums and their success all depends on how the fans react to it. We should at least be able to have some of the deciding factor for the "Best" categories. If you want to talk about picking winners to stir up controversey and grab headlines, then I'd say shows like the Grammys or Oscars where they have "experts" choose their OPINION of who wins an award, would be more guilty of that than MTV.

And to everybody that is complaining about how MTV doesn't play enough videos, use the internet. You can watch plenty of music video online, even ones that MTV doesn't dare play. I think thats a better way to watch music videos rather than sitting on your butt all day waiting for your favorite video to come on tv. I hate MTV as much as the next man because all they play is that commercial radio crap but let's not get too serious about a TV network.

But congrats to Chamillionaire for winning Best Rap Video! He has came a long way and was representing hard for Houston. Slim Thug too, he said "H-TOWN" about three times when he won that award with Beyonce.

Awards like the Grammys, Oscars and Emmy's aren't popularity contests; they go to the artists who are determined to have put forth the best quality work/performance in their particular category and genre. They are awards that actually mean something. If all awards were determined by fans, then you'd have nothing but the most mainstream pieces of s**t winning all the time. Thank you but no. And while the MTV movie/music awards used to be decent, they're nothing but a joke now.

And if it's called Music Television, then it SHOULD play music videos. Otherwise, just call yourselves something else.

I doubt this...If this was the case then why wud there be a separate award called the "Viewer's Choice"? Wudnt "Video of the year" automatically become the viewer's choice for best video??

Uhh, yeah, I've never seen where you could vote on the winner of more than one or two different awards each year. Namely the Viewer's Choice and some other random award (MTV2 award?). Could you direct me to where I could find a ballot for the VMAs so I could vote next year?

I haven't watched in a number of years...but last time I watched there was like a viewer's choice category where voters chose the winner. Maybe that's changed now and the whole show is like that? I dunno, I dont really care.

-umm, nevermind, you said the same thing. :p For some reason I thought you were talking about the Viewers Choice Awards.

Actually now that I think about it, I do remember you could vote on MTV's website for the Movie Award categories...don't know about the Music Awards but I guess it'd be the same.

No, it's not the same for the VMAs. You don't vote on all of the award winners.
