    If you house sits within the 100 year or 500 year flood planes, I agree with you.

    If it does not, then feel free to take your chances. Mine isn't and I have not had flood insurance since 2002.

    Allison left me with a mini-lake in my backyard for a couple of days, but no water ever entered the house, and in front, the water barely made it above my curb.

    But.....insurance is for peace of mind.

    Yes, my uncle and aunt were living in a house in the only two blocks of Alvin that didn't get water in them.

    What does flood insurance cost? $300?

    BTW in '79 Claudette dumped like 48" of rain on Alvin in a 24 hour period. Flood plains be damn, damn near everybody in Alvin got flooded.

    If the storm surge gets to my house, I'm going to be fishing from my rooftop. I'm going to like having beachfront property...
