^ I remember hearing about that ruling but it is the Admin's right to appeal it and I believe Hayes is right there is a stay on that ruling. This thing will likely go to the USSC if Congress doesn't come up with a law that either clearly states such wiretapping is illegal, again I think it is but there is some ambiguity depending on how much one can get away with stretching the language, or that allows it. Once again though the Zogby poll was based on several "ifs" that are still not fully rounded out. I mean if someone were to make a poll that asked "if the President publicly murdered somebody should he be impeached?" you're likely to get a 100% yes response. The poll question as present is leading. A better question would be: "Based on what we know about the record of the Bush 43 Admin. should the President be impeached?"

I wouldn't believe 87% of this country wants Bush impeached. I think his job approval would be a lot less then 35% or whatever it is. And I'm sure of those 65% who disapprove, not even a majority favor impeachment.

Personally, I think we established that incompetence is not grounds for impeachment. Bush hasn't commited high crimes or misdemeanors....he's just been a poor leader.

The dems return to congress is more of a defeat for the neo-conservatives. The American public has spoken - the neo-con agenda is out.

The middle is back in power. The real victory is for moderates.

Just say "no" to the conservative and liberal agendas.

Warrantless NSA spying is a felony crime that W knowingly and purposedly has commited thousands of times.

Starting a preventative war is an international war crime. The US helped write this law, so there should be no excuse for our noncompliance or our pretended ignorance.

Violating the Geneva Conventions via prisoner abuse at Gitmo, at Abu Ghraib, via extraordinary redention, and at secret CIA detention facilities is another breach of international law.

Misleading the country into the Iraq War may also be considered a high crime.

I think that determination would be the purpose of proceedings or a trial.

I dont' think they should move to impeach now. Just correct Bush's biggest overstep in his authority, and keep a tight watch on him.

Do you have a problem with any of the things No Worries mentioned? You're parsing his post, but not denying the gist of it. How about it, basso... does any of it bother you?

I disagree about it being accurate, I think it is.

However; I don't think Bush broke any law in the U.S. legal definition. Not any law that any other president has broken. Clinton committed purgery - that was just stupid of him. Unless the catch Bush in a similar slip-up, I doubt they can do anything.

Again, clinton wasn't impeached over sex - it was over purgery. Granted, it was a trap. But why go through a circus just to trap Bush - is that what you really want?

I think we all need to keep in mind that impeachment is a political and not a legal exercise. "High crimes and misdemeanors" mean whatever the Congress wants it to mean and they could impeach the president for picking his nose or choose not to impeach if he murdered somebody. Short of polls with leading questions there doesn't seem to be much of an outcry for impeachment and if there were you would've seen a lot of candidates running on that.

I suspect something is wrong with the poll. After 381,703 votes, it is still at 87%.

How do you get that out of 'none of the above is actually accurate?' These one sentence questions are not really going to trap anyone, so why bother?

He didn't parse anything, Deckard. He flat out contradicted the gist of No Worries post, which was to say that Bush has indeed committed 'high crimes.' If anything, you are creating a new point which is whether or not these actions (sans the normative editorializing of 'is an international crime' etc) should bother us. That is a much different question than whether or not they are crimes or impeachable offenses.

Hayes, I know what he's doing. And I tossed my own opinion in there. Personally, I think Bush did impeachable offenses. For the good of the country, and my own political party, in that order, I don't think it is a good idea to go after him, and revisit what happened to Clinton, even if what Bush did, in my opinion, is far worse.
