Well, it's not really a "free Waterworld admission." Waterworld is basically a part of Astroworld now. I believe if you walk behind Tidal Wave(?), you can enter Waterworld.

My last summer there was '92. I worked in merchandise that year. I can't believe I used to be scared of those power hungry jackholes. It is such a joke looking back on it.

I never really had a problem with Astroworld because I understood being in a big city it was just a huge teenage hangout. Different atmosphere from most parks which are way out in the suburbs.

That place was not that great. It was a hangout place for kids. In the other parks Ive been to, its not that diluted with middle school kids as this one is. Still go once a year or two just when some friends get bored and decide we have nothing better to do.

Probably the only reason I went, cuz everyone was going so just to chill with friends. Cuz i never thought it was that great. Plus none of it really excited me, I just wanted a ride you get off and were like WOAH. But thats not Astroworld.

I have so many memories of astroworld.

Being dropped off by mom when I was 14. Picking up some 15 year old girls from galveston and making out in the horizons theater and in the little park on the hill with the big rocks out in front of the alpine sleigh ride.

Years later getting a quick 420 in on the Gangla or the big bamboo shoot.

New Order, Morrisey, ACDC, and numerous other band in the apitheater.

Hope my kids don't have as much fun there as I did!

The last couple times i've gone I've gone on a monday or tuesday and it's been great. If you catch it at the right time the lines can't be beat and most of the rides are very good or better.

The dungon drop is the one of my favorites. I'd build one of those things in my back yard if I could. I rode it 11 times in one day and 14 in another.

Overall the park could use a 2 or 3 million dollar face lift but considering all the great times I've had there... I agree with the article.

I can't believe Universal Studios and Universal Adventure Islands is not there. Went there a few years ago and was unbelievable!

Cedar Point is definately the best park I have been to. Some of the coasters there will blow your mind. They got the 300 feet tall millenium force, and the 500 feet tall drag race speedster. The Magnum is only 200 feet tall, but it has a very short line. It's the place to go for coasters. I'd say it's worth driving up to Ohio for. Astroworld is not even in the same ballpark.

    From the article mentioned above:

Although "most of the rides were over" around 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Six Flags park personnel had to rescue riders on the Texas Cyclone and the Serial Thriller.

The rides are mostly over anyway at only 4:15 on a Saturday? WTF?

And it's funny about the power failure happening on the same day that we were just talking about all this.

I imagine it's mainly because Astroworld has a lot more roller-coasters then the vast majority of other Theme Parks out there. Obviously people who visit it often (or have in the past) have a completely different view, but at least it may help get a few travelers to the city :p
