I still can't believe I have driven faster in my Camry (125-127mph) (when i was young and stupid..) than my new sports car (115 mph).
Have no need for speed. But, for grins late one night after closing the bar I took my newly acquired Suzuki Intruder to the gulf coast (from El Campo). Just after Bay City I decided to open it up and got to about 120 mph. SOB! Thats enough for me. I realized that I'm not ready to accidentally sign out.
It was probably in my dad's old 1970 Pontiac Formula 400 Firebird*. It had a different, better engine in there (I want to say it was the engine of a GTO Judge, but I'm not 100% sure) that was suped up to (supposedly) illegal standards by some guys who work for a pro stock racer my dad is good friends with. It was on 146, going from Kemah to Texas City. There is a stretch that is pretty wide open and flat, so you could see if cops were nearby. I don't know the exact speed I was going, but the front end of the car felt like it was being lifted and in 2 nanoseconds **** myself with fear and slowed down ASAP. If I had to guess, I'd say at top speed I was going about 150 or faster? Maybe? But it scared me so much that I never went anywhere near that speed ever again. *My dad had restored this car with all Pontiac-original parts over the course of 5-7 years. Eventually, he sold it. Didn't get much for it considering all he put in. Some 25-ish dude bought it and totaled it less than a month after the purchase. Ass.
i've gone over 160mph on highways (both on 2 & 4 wheels). Completely stupid. My maturity is catching up to my age (still way back though) &, now, i'll only hit those speeds, or higher, on a track.
100mph in my Nissan Titan during the Katrina evac. We were heading to Austin, and once we got out of that 2mph traffic parking lot of a freeway, we hauled ass for a good 2-3 mins of 100+.
About 125 while driving my friend's Porche Carrera. Slightly over 100 on a motorcycle (no helmet/pre-helmet law -- DUMB). Both of these were many, many years ago.
I'm not sure how accurate our speedometers are over 100mph, but like most I've pinned it on a town car & f150. The f150 cuts out, as if you had cut off the engine, while the town car just flies off the highway & crashes into a road sign.
135 in my sc400 on the way back from gamveston around 3am. 120 in my g35 on the way to college station.
This one's crazy but around 155 in an f250 7.3 liter diesel and superchip . Was scary as hell and just felt like it was floating .
