That was true last week. Now things couldn't be further from the truth. There is no water in the lakes.
Replace the '70's with the '60's and you're closer to the mark. Austin has changed, true, but it is still the best city in Texas that isn't flat. It still has more music going on than anywhere else in the state. When it comes to the arts, though, Austin has a long way to go. The symphony, ballet, and opera, while getting better, are not in the class of Houston or Dallas. We don't have a zoo, so a dog or a cat might be in order (or a fish tank). I wouldn't live anywhere else in Texas, and the lakes will fill back up. They always do. You can still go skinny dipping in Travis. You just might have a long walk to get to the water.
