Thanks TManiac,I was aware that the Hornets were below the cap. You are right. I guess even the 4.2 M TE won't make a difference either.
Im not sure that you can send a 4.2 Mill TE for JR Smith's 1 Mill salary. My understanding is that the Rockets can only send them up to 1.35 Mill (125% + 100K of Smith's salary).
I like Butler. He's a very good shooter, and has the abilty to shoot off screens, which is a big part of JVG's offense. He shoots a decent percentage from three and has the midrange shot as well. He's probably not quick enough to defend the SG (he's more of a SF), but I wouldn't be sore if we picked him up. Another swingman-sized shooter has a lot of use around here.
what about kareem rush? he did really well in a lakers uniform but i have no idea why the bobcats would outright cut him. no other team picked him up last season either. anyone know the story on this guy? i think he would fit great into the rockets providing some offensive power.
Apparently at odds with coach and didnt go to practice. Phil Jackson reportedly wanted him when waived by the cats.
Latest news is that Peja is close to signing with the Hornets for about 12 million a year. Radmanovic is close to signing with the Lakers and Tim Thomas close to a deal with the Clippers. With the Hornets using that much of their cap space, maybe be have a better shot at Butler now.
If the Hornets lose Speedy, maybe they'll be up for a JR for Luther swap. Perhaps we can convince them that Luther is backup PG material.
Darius Washington was ranked #10 of potential draftees on this analysis: http://82games.com/nbadraft2006.htm
A TE can be chopped up to fit any amount. If Smith's salary is one million, then NOLA gets a one million TE, and our TE gets cut to 3.2 million. There's more to it, but in layman's terms that's essentially what happens. And we do have a smaller 1.6 TE as well.
Yup, it can. So how is my understanding wrong? Saleem was asking if we can send the 4.2 Mill (Im assuming the entire thing as additional incentive) to NOLA for JR Smith so that they can re-sign their players Claxton and Butler. Firstly, I dont think that you can send them additional cash, only enough to make the salaries match within the 125% + 100K rule (if they are over the cap). Secondly, I dont think that you can use extra cash from a TE to re-sign players, only in trades.
Fine then he is wrong. From your wording I thought you meant that we couldn't accept Smith on our end, not the deal from their end. It gets a bit confused in the threads sometimes.
T-Maniac I was asking if we could send the 4.2 M TE in exchange for J.R. Smith since they are under the cap. Thanks for reminding me it can only be used in a trade. Thanks for correcting me guys.
Im not trying to win points or anything and Im not trying to be a jerk. Just my understanding and Im open to correction.
I think they can accept the salary, if they are under the cap (after signing Peja and their rookies, they will not be). Still, I dont know why Houston would do that (giving away 3 extra mill in TE) if it doesnt help NOLA since it cant be used to re-sign players.
P.S. I apologize if my wording was confusing, but after re-reading what I wrote, it seems pretty clear to me.
I posted this in another thread but this is probably a better spot for it.... I think if we sign Mike James, then we are pretty much set with a good spread of minutes. Ideal Game Minutes: Alston(28mins)/James(20mins) T-Mac(25mins)/James(15mins)/Head(8mins) Battier(25mins)/T-Mac(15mins)/Novak(8mins) Howard(15mins)/Hayes(20mins)/Battier(13mins) Yao(35mins)/Mutombo(13mins) This gives the following minutes to players: T-Mac: 40 Battier: 38 Yao: 35 James: 35 Alston: 28 Hayes: 20 Howard: 15 Mutombo: 13 Head: 8 Novak: 8 For depth we could sign Darius Washington as the 3rd PG or Wesley to play backup PG/SG. Pick up Bogans or another cheap FA to backup SG/SF. Get a banger to play backup PF/C minutes (Cato?). That would give us 13 players. Rybo will probably pick up his player option. That would be 14 players. I would leave the 15th spot open for flexibility if we have an injury.
