haven't seen: Godfather series Braveheart Shawshank Redemption Kill Bill (1 and 2) There are certainly others.. I get "that look" more than anyone I think.
Well, as I said before, I'm with you on the Godfather series. Personally I'm just not big on mob movies, but I'll eventually get around to watching them. On the other hand, Shawshank is one of my all time favorites, and Braveheart was damn good as well. Kill Bill 1/2 are a little more dependent on the viewer's taste, I think.
I've watched the first half of the Magnificent Ambersons about a decade ago. It was looking like the greatest movie I had ever seen ever but I won't know if it is until I see it to the end.
I should have included LA Confidential on my list. One of the first movies I purchased on blu-ray. Simply amazing. Spacey, Crowe, Guy Pearce, James Cromwell, Danny Devito, Kim Basinger in her Oscar-winning performance. It probably would have won more Oscars if hadn't been up against Titanic. It is easily one of the best movies ever made.
I've done the same with Appocalypse Now... I get to roughly the same spot and then I remember why I haven't finished watching this movie.... I don't care.
I've never seen: The Godfather Any of the Star Wars flilms besides The Phantom Menace The Deer Hunter, in fact any De Niro film before Goodfellas Any Nicholson flick before Batman Any of the Indiana Jones films besides Temple of Doom Any Hoffman film before Dick Tracy Any John Wayne film Gone With the Wind A Clockwork Orange Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid There's probably many more. I mean I just watched E.T. and Apocalypse Now for the first time a few months ago but I'm slowly getting them all in.
I've never seen Casablanca. Need to see. People who have Raging Bull, but haven't seen it, need to leave work right now, go home, and watch it. Two of my favorite movies, that are kind of obscure, but that I highly, highly reccomend- The Might Quinn: Denzel Washington as chief of police on a small caribbean island. Great script. Great sound track. Great cinematography. Local Hero: Oil company tries to buy small scottich town. Houston connection. Very soulful.
Not big on mob flicks either (never was), but man oh man, I just saw the first Godfather a few weeks back and it was excellent. Need to get around to watching the second one.
movies i know i need to see taken valkrie (sp?) paul blart mall cop the new star trek terminator salvation night at the museum 2 up
Another fan! I finally got a Bluray player a few weeks ago and, although I already have it on DVD, when Fry's had it on sale really cheap (for Bluray), I snapped it up. Rolo Tomasi, bro... Rolo Tomasi! Spacey is stunning in the film (as is Pearce, Cromwell, DeVito, and Basinger, along with Crowe, who I've praised already), and he makes it look effortless. What a collection of world class actors, bringing their best. There's an eatery in Austin called the Victory Grill, and whenever I see it, I think of the Victory Motel, scene of one of cinema's all-time great gun battles. Awesome!
Try renting Apocolypse Now: Redux, which is the director's cut. You'll blow right by that spot and watch it to the end, IMO. Just curious... where do you quit watching? It is a freaky movie, no question. Still one of my favorite war flicks, a riff on Heart of Darkness. Coppola's a mad genius!
Further up the river, the crew meets a U.S. base supply depot. They dock and collect fuel, cigarettes, and other supplies, then join the throng of men in an amphitheater that has been erected by the river. Soon, a helicopter arrives and drops three Playboy Playmates onto the stage to perform in a USO (United Service Organization) show. The Playmates perform to Flash Cadillac's song “Suzie Q” and taunt the sex-starved troops with seductive shimmies and bump-and-grind moves. When some of the soldiers run onto stage in a frenzy, the show is cut short and the Playmates are quickly evacuated. That one... around this point I hear the fail sound from the price is right in my head and what Coppola has done is bore me into a stuppor. I think I've pfft'ed a few times. If I were to come across the DVD I would try watching it from that point on.
Maybe it's personal taste. I loved that scene. What might improve it for you is that the guys in the boat run into the Bunnies further up the river. And what happens next is a trip! Spoiler Their helicopter has run out of fuel and they're stranded at a supply depot that's half abandoned, out there in the middle of nowhere. The Bunnies are talked into trading sex for the fuel by Martin Sheen, who makes a deal with their manager. Not for Sheen, but for the crew, to help pay them back for making the insane trip up the river. A great scene that plays better than it reads and didn't make the original version. The studio thought it was too hot, I guess! Oh yes!
