dude scarface was a classic. Lost in translation was also about 2 married people in crisis at different points of their lives. scarlett was in a young marriage and had no direction, bill was in a longer marriage and in a midlife crisis. they find direction and inspiration through each other. how are you hating on scarface? ' Yo want some ice cream?'
As far as remember, when the movie first hit DVD I read up on all this, all DVDs releases outside of the US are un altered versions of Eyes. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eyes-Wide-Shut-Tom-Cruise/dp/B00004RCPW
Thanks to this thread I'm going to check out Donnie Darko and see what all the fuss is about. Stuff I don't get: Napoleon Dynamite - and judging from the commercials I thought this would be right up my street Lord of the Rings - too long for me, too many slow paced moments which weren't very interesting, I fell asleep watching these Scarface- just overrated; while I can understand why other people 'get it' in most cases, I don't understand why anyone thought this was a great movie Shawshank Redemption - am I going to hell for saying this? But in fairness, I haven't watched this as my main focus - I only catch it on reruns on tv, and usually I'm doing something else while watching it. One day I'll watch this no distractions. And for those who didn't like Vanilla Sky, I'm with you. BUT I happened to watch the original Spanish movie (Penelope Cruz was in it too) it was based on before anyone even thought about remaking it. I thought it was great, and was very disappointed by Vanilla considering the star power behind it.
First one, was very good but then the sequels took themselves way too seriously in terms of all the rhetoric being spewed out, 3rd one was nearly unwatchable in my opinion
Yes, yes you are going to hell. Seriously, it did bother me on how Andy escaped because before that part, the entire movie was very believable. The way he escaped about ruined it for me with it being so far-fetched. And I am saying that about my all-time favorite movie.
Minority Report I had to watch 2-3 times before I could understand it. And then when I did finally understand it I loved it.
For me its: Vanilla Sky Eyes Wide Shut The Breakup Lost in Translation not sure if this one was mentioned but: Moulin Rouge
Actually crash took the recipe for its movie from the Mexican movie "Amores Perros". It had 3 or 4 stories which all intercepted all at one point. Of course the point was different in both. Babel was made from the same guy who made 'Amores Perros', so I was really pumped about watching it. Needless to say I was tremendously disappointed.
I've always felt that Tarintino films were way overated. Thought Pulp Fiction was okay..but not truly great. Resevoir Dogs was much better in my opinion. I really liked Clerks when it came out, but I've been dissapointed with Kevin Smiths' lack of true growth. He seems to be stuck on writing idle non-sensicle chit-chat dialouge into every movie he makes. I liked Chasing Amy a lot, but I don't think he really showed any progress in his writing until he did Jersey Girl..which most Smith fans Hate. I hated that Crash portrayed every white person as yielding racist tendencies with very few redeeming qualities, yet most of the other characters were not racists..just constantly misunderstood. Other movies I thought were just overated: Little Miss Sunshine..good..just not THAT Good Natural Born Killers.. I understand the message..just overrated Scarface...the bad accent really does bother me.. Lost in translation...I liked it, just not award-winning liked it. Cider House Rules...Okay.. the horse is dead already, you can stop beating it now. I got your point in the first five minutes. You can stop repeating it now..or now...or now..or now.. It seems that film snobs will only like a movie if it has a point to make that they agree with, or has some deep philosophical meaning. Sorry, I do think that there is a place in this world for pointless movies made just for entertainment value. "fun" movies are..well..just fun. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a Spielberg film..but to some people, there's nothing right with his work. Yeah..I really enjoyed "Magnolia", I loved "Life is Beautiful", but I also liked American Pie as well, and I'm not afraid to admit it.
I think it is more left for the viewer to imagine what is going on. This is what i think happened. Spoiler They get to the boat where she is taken to a secluded land where land is fertile and there is no war and violence and the people are not tainted. In this land there are already a number of babies who were all hidden from the media and everyone else. They had her breed more and then kill her because she herself is tainted. Then they slowly wait for all the bad in the world to die. And then civilization starts again the right way in that little patch of eden. GREAT movie had me thinking all night after I watched it and this is what I came up with.
hhmmmmm I thought Ludacris's Character was pretty d*mn Racist and I though Sandra Bullock's character fell under scared and misunderstood People wanted to say the movies was about racism. . . or race relations but it was more about to corruption of the human character and Human Misunderstanding I think they wanted to make it more about misunderstanding but some of the things they showed. . esp with the Cop and Politicials was more wabout expedience than anything Rocket River Tomatoes and Tomotoes
