A ton have already been mentioned like Thin Red Line (fell asleep), Magnolia, Vanilla Sky. Lake House - Didn't see this mentioned
Great thread. One movie I just don't 'get' is Napoleon Dynamite. I don't understand why others like it? I am 34, is it my age? I just don't know. Is it supposed to be 2000's version of those teenage 80's movies like Breakfast club etc?
dude come on Spoiler she makes it safe to that boat with the scientists so they can figure out why she was fertile and thus repopulating the world and giving hope
Agreed. My wife loves Sandra Bullock so we saw this movie when it came out as well as "Premonition". I enjoyed both movies but neither was too realistic with all the time changes and lapses (my wife hated the ending to "Premonition"). Oh and I get "Dr. Strangelove", I just never found it as funny as so many others. It is probably the one Kubrick film that I don't like. I like Barry Lyndon and Lolita more than it (as well as Spartacus).
ahh yes.. how could i forget.. Did anyone watch 'The Abandoned' ? I've never felt so unsatisfied coming out of any movie.
maybe i just missed it or it was just vague, but why couldn't they have children in the first place? probably gonna have to watch it again.
see imho, I thought it was about sex and marraige and how people stray out of boredom for some sexual fantasy that isn't out there. but I may have misinterpeted, and therefore my entry of said movie in this thread.
It's never explained and the characters in the movie don't know either, just something that happened at one point in the movie's time line
I'm 37 and I love it. I was ok with it the first time I saw it but it gets better every time you see it. When I first saw it, the feel of the movie kind of reminded me of True Stories (David Byrne). I thought it was ok but it definitely grew on me. I have probably watched NP 20 times. It's the little things about the movie that make it great. His drawings, his house, the neighborhood. It think it's art. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Slacker.
what???!!! Dude that's an ARNOLD movie, they weren't made for people who like complex plots. I hope you understood Rambo 2.
To be fair, Total Recall has it fair share of twists and turns, its not the most straight forward movie in the Arnie catalouge
ALOT of people don't understand the last scene of "HE GOT GAME". I did, but some people don't get it.
What's there to "get?" It just a loose interpretation of the Many-Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics. Jeez...
I'll take this even farther.... Eyes Wide Shut is a great example of how dangerous your life can get when you do things that you know are morally wrong. Example being that Bill Harford wants to cheat on his wife Alice because she admitted to him that she was willing to risk everything (another danger) to have one night with a navy guy. Alice doesn't act on this want but we see Bill visualizing in his mind, Alice being with him in the bedroom doing sexual things. Thus, Bill keeps getting into these situations where he can have his "revenge" but with the exception of going to the mansion, he doesn't act on them. However, he nearly pays for that with his life (it is also revealed in the movie that the hooker, Domino, is HIV positive but fortunately Bill doesn't have sex with her). In real life, we have choices that we all must make. Sometimes those choices are irreversible or hard to change (such as marrying someone that might not be a perfect match for you). Yes, you can get a divorce (and one wonders why didn't Bill decide that but you have to remember he never had reason to until Alice revealed her revelation to him) but they are going to cause you to go through a lot of pain. Yet, fooling around like he was doing can be even more dangerous. "Eyes Wide Shut" does a great job of showing something bland like a married couple and how their lives can dramatically change because of something petty like jealousy (as you mentioned GRENDAL). Luckily for Bill, he was given a second chance.
Alright, I usually love movies that are hard to understand, symbolic, or strange. Jacob's Ladder is an all-time favorite. But the one movie I don't get AT ALL, and I haven't seen it mentioned, is I Heart Huckabees. I thought it was horrible.
