How the hell did I forget Man on Fire... When the kidnappers let Dakota Fanning loose and she starts running towards Denzel as he is walking towards her to trade himself for her was a very good scene... Definite tears...
I remember buying "The Land Before Time" from Pizza Hut on a Friday night for $10...or at least my parents did. I watched that movie so many times and cried every time Little Foot's mom died...
The Prince of Egypt When Moses is leading the Jews out of Egypt and they start singing "When You Believe". <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gur8ccqrQ9c&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gur8ccqrQ9c&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
All these sports movies and no one has mentioned Rudy? Man that movie still makes me cry like a baby. Apologies in advance if I missed it.
Common theme in these movies that always gets me. 1. About Schmidt - Ndugu's letter kills me every time 2. Waking Ned Devine 3. Saving Private Ryan 4. Straight Story 5. Apostle
Rudy, Passion of the Christ and any of those 9-11 movies. If you don't at least well up during United 93 or World Trade Center with Nicolas Cage you don't have a soul.
Antoine Fisher - The family feast scene at the end when his grandmother grabs his hand. I didn't just tear up, I cried. Friday Night Lights - When Boobie is in the car after cleaning out his locker AND when that father gives his kid his state championship ring at the end. Rudy - When they carried him off the field at the end. Gets me every time. Can't believe it hasn't been mentioned. Pearl Harbor - When Ben Affl....ok, that one's a joke.
The Color Purple, Schindler's List, Glory, Philadelphia, The Pianist, been a LONG time since I saw it (like in the theaters), but ET, Hotel Rwanda, Mystic River, Shawshank, Forrest Gump, American History X, and from different ends of the spectrum: Requiem for a Dream and Love, Actually. I don't think I've ever balled at a movie (even when I was a kid), but my eyes will tear up a bit. And seeing as I've already gone out on a limb: When Ennis hangs Jack's coat next to his in the closet in Brokeback Mountain. Heath Ledger is a pretty good actor.
I get a little choked up reading that. If you have lost your dad, you understand. Its funny because I will laugh at myself when I'm watching that movie, because I know I will be a mess when that scene starts. Then it happens. Afterwards, I laugh at myself again.
There were several kids movie thats I enjoyed and affected me on an emotional level when I was growing up. The Land Before Time - The first time I ever saw this movie I was about 5 years old, and I was so happy that Little Foot overcame the death of his mother, the separation from his grandparents, the annoying-ness of Ducky, and the b****iness of Cera to finally reach the great valley. A tremendous movie filled with drama little children don't often have to encounter. I cried at the end. (I was 5) Balto - This isn't a Disney movie, and with good reason. Balto has a lot of drama in it, and a lot of good life lessons. He has to overcome a bully, being labeled an outcast because of his race, and finally reaching his full potential and doing what he always wanted to do. The part where he has to literally drag his team along and then lead them all through the snow, and finally dragging the medicine with his teeth all the way to the town to save the lives of everyone with diptheria is incredible. Balto manned up big time and showed those snobby dogs that he could **** their b**** mothers any day. The Secret of Nihm - Again, not a sugary Disney flick. This movie was pretty damn deep and frightening back in the day. Lots of weird stuff, plus one of the mice utters a swear at one point which I always thought was cool. The Fox and the Hound - A Disney movie with some real drama and life lessons. Basically its the story of two friends in childhood who have to grow up and realize they are supposed to be enemies. There is a gripping scene where the Old Lady has to take Todd back to the forest. One of the saddest things I have ever seen in an animated movie. There was a bad-ass red-eyed Bear out to **** everyone up too. Robin Hood - A real ****ing kick-ass Disney movie if there ever was one. This one had it all, lovable characters, catchy songs, and some hard-boiled drama. The song with all the townspeople including kids in shackles is pretty sobering. It kicked ass man, It kicked ass. Angels in the Outfield - Yeah, Yeah, Yeah... I know, its a corny ass movie for the most part, but it also had some great sports moments and drama. The scene where Danny Glover tells the kid "You can't go through life thinking that everyone you meet will one day let you down" always stayed with me. The part where his b****-ass dad comes to tell him he's not going to see him again is pretty sobering. Plus its cool to see guys like Adrien Brody and Matthew McConaughey before there were stars.
Why is everyone mentioning Armageddon? That movie was horrible. I almost walked out. I called it "the movie that would not end".
Dances with Wolves kind of gets me when they shoot the wolf, and when his Indian friend yells goodbye to him.
Got drunk last night and didn't watch. I have it dvrd though. Seriously, Armageddon was pure cheese. It is up there with the Matthew Broderick Godzilla remake. My wife and I saw it in the theaters and we talked about leaving but we decided to stick it out. It just would not end.
Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler were pretty terrible (Animal Crackers GAH) but I don't think it was the worst movie ever. I could name plenty of movies way worse.
