The theatrical release of "The Abyss". At least the director's cut tried to explain the ending. I always considered it a great 2 hour movie that was unfortunately 2 1/4 hours long.
Yeah I know it's the real ending. Multiple sources already confirm it. It's just too bad because it could have been an epic movie but I should have known that Christopher Nolan like to keep all his movie real.
As far as Contact goes, they should have had the alien be a Nazi. It would have been hilarious to find out that all of the scientists were wrong and the stereotypical right wing politician was right. It would have completely changed the tone of the movie, but I bet no one would see it coming.
Since somebody brought it up, I always find this interesting. Those of you that saw AI; what happened at the end? Man, it's been a while, but wasn't it one way he goes on to wherever new place he was going, the other way he goes on to meet the new woman he just encountered? I thought the whole point was that his old life was gone, and while sad, he had a new one that he had to begin. The intersection shows that life goes on, and he has a whole bunch of new paths to choose from. I was fine with it. I don't always want the movie makers to hold my hand and tell me exactly what the ending should be.
Only thing I liked about that movie was the scene with Tim Robbins dying and hearing "Dance the Night Away" for the first time. I actually thought O'Connell would walk away from that film with an Ashton Kucher/Dane Cook type career, but I knew Sinise had peaked feature-film wise.
I don't remember "Contact" very well...been a while. But wasn't it the middle of that movie that was kind of...ridiculous? The first machine was sabotaged (if I remember correctly). But wait! There's another SECRET bazillion dollar machine that was built somewhere else? I liked the movie but that part seemed a little off for some reason. Maybe I'm misremembering?
I haven't read the book but maybe S.R. Hadden built the second one in Japan for himself but decided to give Eleanor Arroway a chance since she was the one who discover the contact and the one he totally admire and respect.
I loved that ending. very powerful. That was actually one of the few movies were the ending made it a great movie. In general I love bad endings in movies. There are many movies were the ending destroyed the movie. Especially with Horror/ Sci-Fi movies.
Star Wars. I mean, he didn't even get to do the Princess! After that, I refused to watch the rest of them...
I just watched this movie and the construction of it was totally understandable. The groups wanted a backup structure because they had the funding for two, and as Hadden put it "First rule in government spending: why build one when you can have two at twice the price? Only, this one can be kept secret. Controlled by Americans, built by the Japanese subcontractors. Who, also, happen to be, recently acquired, wholly-owned subsidiaries... "
I've always been undecided on which ending of The Mist I prefer (movie vs story) because the film ending was added. In the novela it ends with them simply driving away into the unknown.

I LOVED the ending to the Mist, that is a type of ending that made the movie great, one of my favorite endings of the past decade
