Citizen Kane. Anything from the pre-code silent era. I believe the big money productions in Hollywood are actually forcing most of the creative people out (there are exceptions, to be sure, but not many) and that's why the last 10 years have seen a glut of remakes of old TV shows/movies. The big money monkeys are incapable of creativity, and the artists are being frozen out of the mainstream, so the big money monkeys just pick something that's already been done and redo it with bigger special effects and modern actors. The result: movies made entirely by businessmen.
Sorry, couldnt resist listing the stinkers. Here is the real list: The Dirty Dozen Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles The Godfather Citizen Kane Dr. Strangelove Miracle on 34th Street (I know, too late...) Seven Samuari
I think From Justin to Kelly SHOULD be re-made, but with a few slight changes. First, replace Justin Guarini with Beyonce'. Then, replace all the musical numbers with XXX lesbian scenes. Finally, since Justin won't be in the movie, the title doesn't fit. Change the title to Chocolate Vanilla Swirl
Well, Peter Jackson has decided that his next project will be a remake of King Kong. The original was a classic, and with so many other Kong knock offs over the years, I was a little worried. I figure that with the job he did on LOTR, he will probably do a fantastic job on King Kong, and make it worth seeing, unlike the remake of Godzilla a few years ago. He has said in interviews that King Kong was his favorite movie growing up and he has always dreamed of working on it, so he'll probably put a ton of effort into it. If he wasn't the one doing it, I'd say that you shouldn't remake King Kong.
To me, there's no reason to get upset about a remake. All you have to do is not watch it. I mean, "The Truth About Charlie" didn't do anything to "Charade". "Who's That Girl?" didn't make "Bringing Up Baby" any less of a movie. And I was going to say that "Switching Channels" didn't screw up "His Girl Friday" for me, but "His Girl Friday" was already a remake. The originals still exist, and you can watch them all you want..... Not to mention that sometimes a remake can lead to more attention toward the original and maybe a new DVD transfer/release or television airings or what-have-you. The DVD for The "Truth About Charlie" came with a very good transfer of "Charade". If I didn't already have the now-OOP Criterion Collection edition of "Charade", I might have bought "The Truth About Charlie" just to get the good copy of "Charade."
You don't remember Leonard Pt. 6. Sixth Sense Godfather The Shining - oh wait, they already ****ed that one up.
Shawshank is high on the list. Dont ever screw with that one, it couldnt be better if they tried. Indiana Jones 1 and 3 Jaws Blazing Saddles and Young frankenstein are also good calls. Holy Grail (who would want to remake this one?)
The Blob remake owned. Totally agreed with mrpaige. No need to write something off before it's even attempted. Heck, I would actually enjoy seeing different directors' takes on the same scripts.
I say... Close Encounters of the Third Kind Herbie The Love Bug Twilight Zone: The Movie My wife says... White Christmas The Sound of Music Space Balls I agree with my wife on at least one of those.
Oy vey. I hope you weren't serious when you thought Benigni is Jewish. What a disgrace to acting, he is. Ahh I almost forgot one movie that we can only hope to god WON'T EVER BE REMADE: HUDSON HAWK
Oh, they've remade half of the movies that should never be remade, so I've about given up. They're doing Alfie as we speak...
Sort of on topic, what sequels should not have been made. IMHO, the Matrix 2 and the Matrix 3 and Star Wars episode 1 and 2 immediately come to mind, and a bushel full of James Bond movies.
