In the comics, it wasn't the Joker who killed his parents, and he won't be the killer in this movie either. There will be two villains, Ra's Al Ghul and the Scarecrow.
I'll watch it, and I hope it's good, but it seems a little unoriginal. Kinda like some producers saw Spiderman and a lightbulb came on as to how they could "re-boot" the franchise. Should've waited another 10 years. I think we're all a little Batmanned out from the other four.
In other words, every Batman comic-book cover ever made. I kinda like that international poster, though.
The first Batman movie was a good movie, but it wasn't a particularly good Batman movie. It badly pales in comparison to the Batman written by Miller, Loeb, O'Neill, Englehart, Moore, Kane and even Doug Moench. Batman is one of the very great American characters. He is a deeply complicated, entirely original figure. In Burton's movies, he was an eccentric, mildly interesting nut in a suit (and a suit which didn't even allow him to turn his head to the side without turning his entire body). The first four movies focused on his wacky villains at the expense of the truly interesting character of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Keaton was good and Nicholson was good, but they were in the wrong movie. They were players in a curio that focused on Burton's strengths -- creating a blockbuster franchise through great visuals, great art direction and fairly banal moodiness. There was no there there. I can understand how Fatty or someone else might be Batman'ed out, but I really think any doubters will change their minds when they see the new one. In most ways, there has never been a true Batman movie. This one's going to be great. The writer, the director and each of the actors takes the character seriously, understands why he's an icon and is committed to bringing that to the screen. Perhaps most remarkable of all, the studio has stayed out of the process 100 percent. Gary Oldman, in an interview, said he was excited because Warner Bros had committed millions of dollars to an art film with fascinating characters and great acting. The new trailer, which will be online any day now, will give you a taste. Check it out and let me know what you think.
I guess I'm just bitter. I was really ready for the "Batman Beyond" as the natural progression. Now we have to start over...
OMG. When BJ gets into a frenzy and starts posting about one half of his moniker, he loses the ability to hit the return key. I'd hate to see what would happen when we get to the subject of Star Jones. I keed, I keed.
