I do hope he still has enough left in the tank to direct The Forever War. But he's attached to over half a dozen projects already...
For me I think Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven would be my favorites, followed closely by Black Hawk Down. Blade Runner is awesome but a bit slow (imo) and Aliens is obviously a classic but I prefer the sequel. Kingdom of Heaven (DC) is probably his most underrated film of his by far. It's a travesty the studio chopped his film up so bad. The director's cut is absolutely amazing. And GI Jane is very underrated too I think. Seems too many people focused on Demi playing a woman SEAL and shaving her head. But it was a solid film.
Blade Runner Alien Gladiator Kingdom of Heaven(DC) Black Hawk Down Legend Still need to watch: Thelma and Louise Matchstick Men Robin Hood Cannot freaking wait for Prometheus!!! Welcome come back to Sci-Fi Mr.Scott! The man does have a great sense of visual. Even in his early days directing hundred of commercials. These commercials had a great affect on me as a kid. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dx3Na_7inPI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VHPof2cEjC0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Robin Hood didn't do anything for me, but I concur w/ others that the man can make action movies. Looking at imdb, I do notice a flaw in some of his forgotten movies like Body of Lies or Matchstick Men. His pacing has a deliberate style to it that can make or break the film. 'Meh' w/ Body of Lies, 'Ohhh' w/ Matchstick Men, and 'That's it?' w/ American Gangster. Hannibal was too much the Anthony Hopkins show that it overshadowed any intended direction the movie wanted to take (mmmm brains). Didn't think too much of Kingdom of Heaven. I seemed to recall many epic battles from different periods at the theaters then. Then you have his classics like Alien, Blade Runner, and even Thelma and Louise. So he's definitely had fun experimenting on different styles, but there isn't one you can pin down outside the testosterone pumped summer action flick, and that becomes frustrating if you want a similar imprint from a movie you liked before. He's not a director who imprints his (their) indelible mark like Scorcese, the Coen Brothers, or Tarrantino, but you can't really fault him for expressing a desire to improve and the films he's left behind backs it up.
I think he got caught up in the stupid politic crap and start directing that type of movies that he's not well known for. I don't blame it on his directing. I would probably blame it on choosing a poor scripts and choice of movies to direct. He should forget about the stupid Oscars and just go back to his root and direct movies that he and the fans enjoyed.
Man you are stupid and dense McLady. Your takes on Kubrik`s films are pretty laughable at best and doesn`t know what the hell you`re are yapping about. As you get older you will understand what`s a good and classic movies is all about. For a guy that doesn`t like black and white movies pretty much state my point.
Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm dense. And my all-time favorite movie is black and white - Schindler's List. I have seen plenty of black and white movies. Seven Samurai 12 Angry Men North by Northwest Rear Window Raging Bull I'm sorry if I said in one of my earlier posts that I didn't like black and white, that was ignorant. But it doesn't warrant your hate posts. I HATE when people think their opinion is high and above others. **** You.
North by Northwest and Rear Window are NOT black and white movies. They have always been in color. I understand the need to respond since Bebop called you out, but seriously, man - just move on. Every response you say back is making your case look worse and worse by the minute.
Really? It felt like one. I saw it like 7 years ago in high school. My freakin bad. Still I hate this douche.
I'm calling you out because you are such a fake. Claiming Kubrik to be a genius and ahead of his time and doesn't understand anything about his films and contradicting it with your comments. You claimed to have seen 4 of his films but comments on 6 of the films. Did you actually watched the whole thing or did you actually fast forwards through them and based your comments on other's reviews of it? Is it you like the films because it had something that you think The Dark Knight and Inception had some similarity to it? Let me guess. You give 2001 a pass because there are zero gravitation scenes just like Inception. Schindler's List and Raging Bull are not in the Black and White Era.
I HAVE seen six. If you're referring to the thread I made where I listed five, I did not see Space Odyssey when I made that thread, but with the next post I posted in that thread I had already seen it. There is no reason for me to lie. Kubrick IS a genius, I try to look for Kubrick's influence in most films today and sadly I have a hard time finding that (with the exception of There Will Be Blood - that came very close). And his films were ahead of their time, I have told everyone I know to watch his films, the way they were shot and how scenes are done rivals anything done today. If I was being fake I would be worshiping him, saying that ALL his films are flawless, but I do not agree with that, I can't agree with that, I did not like the Shining and I won't say that I did.
