The freeway scene is one of my favorite action sequences of all time. But yeah, the latter two were vastly sub-par. I've always wanted to edit out all the relationship crap and character building and gay dance scenes from the last two and combine them into one decent movie. I think it would be pretty good that way - it's like they had a good idea of how to end the first one but stretched it out over two movies to milk the cash cow.
I could forgive the 2nd movie to an extent because like others have said, it had some awesome action sequences...freeway scene being one of the all time best. The 3rd lacked action scenes and its suckatude was magnified.
I agree with the consensus, the 1st one was the best. 2nd one was serviceable. 3rd sucked. Even the final fight between Neo and Smith was boring. I think the problem with it was no one cared about the scenes in Zion. People want to see all the action take place in the Matrix and people dodging bullets and stuff.
the problem with the 3rd film IMHO is that It looked like The Wachoski's where too scared of pissing off religious groups or too scared that the audience wasn't ready for an intelligent, thought provoking conclusion.
Bring it on. It can't be any worst, so it's worth a shot. I agree with the consensus. The 2nd was decent, and a great 3rd film could have saved the series. Instead it buried what was left. The first movie should have legendary status, but unfortunately it's hard for many to separate it from 2 & 3.
I think that Matrix Reloaded was a GREAT film in its own right. It just happened to pale in the light of expectations created by the first film, which pretty much revolutionized the action genre. Those who went to see it hoping to get something just as good or better than the first film were disappointed and panned it. But remove those expectations, and you find that it was simply an awesome action movie with some of the best sequences ever -- freeway, the Merovingian, etc. The third sucked altogether. I'm all for it if they can find a way to reboot the series with a compelling plot and some properly done 3D filming.
I think it's okay because people think the franchise needs saving and are willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
I hope this does happen. The first Matrix film is one of my favorite movie of all time and the best live cyberpunk movie ever. I finally watched Speed Racer last night and to my surprised I enjoyed it. There's no doubt about it but the race sequences is probably the best ever to be put on film.
The Matrix in 3D does sounds interesting, and I would go see it. I just hope they can put a serviceable story around it.
Peter Sciretta of slashfilm.com just tweeted this: FYI: That Matrix news going around is apparently not true. The Senior Administrator for the London School of Performing Arts informed Screenrant that Keanu Reeves made no appearance there. http://t.co/eo7PfMY
progressively? Reloaded was crap, revolutions was epic due to smith neo fight. They concentrated too much on the battle of zion though.
I did enjoy the 2nd one quite a bit the 3rd just had a totally different feel to it, almost like it did not even belong in the series but also, 2 questions: 1) Didnt a lot of the main characters die at the end of the trilogy? 2) Aren't they the Wachowski "siblings" now as one is now a woman (or at least I thought one was)???
3-D is becoming nothing more than a draw. Why do 3-d when you have no 3-d effects??? I think all the Green Hornet 3-d effects were in the fricking Credits Not fist coming at ya not blasts coming out of the screen . . . looked pretty flat to me . . . So if they do 3-D . . I need to see some fist flying Rocket River
I was at lunch today and said this exact same thing. Might have been verbatim. Are you following me around? When they are in the Matrix, **** is awesome. The grand hall fight scene, the car chase, the twins, the opening fight, the courtyard fight with all the Smiths. Awesome. The dancing in Zion and 30 minute psuedo sex-scene. Not so much.
Question from Matrix 3 I was kind of disappointed when they flew above the clouds. All I could think was.. . hhhmmm . . they can make anti gravity floating machines but cannot send a energy collector about the clouds? those machines sure were lazy Rocket River
There were some dumb issues like that in the sequels. Like the Mechs- they couldn't put some armor on them?
