Caught the movie last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. All the little stories that were told in the documentary were pretty much compiled to make this movie. I thought it was well done, while it's not Oscar Award winning, it is entertaining. The skate scenes were shot well and the real footage at the very end of the credits were a small added bonus. I'll pick this up on DVD when it comes out, good soundtrack too!
Even though these events took place before I started skating, (I was a 'skater' when "Search for Animal Chin" was out) I'm excited to see this movie. I haven't seen the documentary, so I'll probably see that after the movie. I used to skate at the Skatepark of Houston (Cedar Hill?) and there was a ditch near Ella and 34th I think called Easy 7. In the years that I skated, we built at least 4 half pipes. We had one in our back yard for years. My brother still skates vert. The kids on the street courses look at the vert skaters like they're dinosaurs. Gifford, where was that Texas Pipeline ditch? We used to skate a feeder ditch that was pretty far west on Braes Bayou, near Westwood Mall. There wasn't much to it though.
I always push for people to see documentaries. Dogtown and Zboys has to be one of the best. The shot of the kid with the long hair twirling was fantastic. That movie is an organized, entertaining, piece of art. I would recommend it to anyone who would listen to me.
Hey firecat, I used to skate Easy 7 too, when I was in highschool. God, I had totally forgetten about that place. I was so young when I was going to the Texas Pipeline, that I can't remember where it was on Braes Bayou. If my memories are are accurate, it probably had 5' to 7' foot walls on an angle, flat, not rounded.
Well, better go see it while you can. Based on the first weekend earnings, it looks like it will be on DVD shortly...
