I feel bad for Keanu, even though he's a multi multi millionaire. the Hellblazer comics existed long before the Matrix, but I know a lot of reviewers are gonna compare this movie to the Matrix.
I was thinking HELLBLAZER would have been better [since that is the name of the comic book version] but confusing with HellRaiser may have come into play Rocket River
Interesting, I saw a screener of it on Tuesday..special effects are good the story line could have used a bit of tweaking, the dialogue could have been a tad bit clearer.... Lucifer is the man in this flick B-
You feel bad for Keanu? I feel bad for Alan Moore. Keanu couldn't be more wrong for the part. John Constantine was created to be played by Sting.
Cool movie. If you like Jap Anime, you'll love this movie. This includes a lot of intentional cheese that are hilarious.
Well it wasn't exactly Alan Moore's idea, the artists who were working on Swamp Thing at the time wanted a character who looked like Sting, so he came up with John Constantine. I know Keanu doesn't look like him and they had to change him to an american and all, but I thought he still captured the spirit of the character pretty well. Until the very very end though, you'll know what I'm talking about, right before the credits role. If you bother to watch it. Speaking of Alan Moore, James Purefoy was cast in V. No word on who he's playing though. It would be cool if they never say or show the actor who plays V in this movie, but I don't know how that could possibly happen. Oh and: http://watchmenmovie.com/
I enjoyed this movie. You have to keep in mind that this is an adaptation from the comic "HellBlazer". Nothing like the Matrix, it has it's own feel. I give it 3 1/2 out of 5.
I kept waiting for all the water bottles in Constantine's apartment to come into play, but they never did....
I didn't even think about them until the last time they showed up on screen. Then it occured to me that he'd need plenty of water, especiallly after he explained how important it was.
I hadn't heard it was the artists' idea. I find it hard to believe that the character exists only because an artist wanted to draw Sting, particularly where a writer of Moore's caliber's involved. But even if that's true, the look and the nationality of the character are very important to Moore and it seems to me his wishes ought to have been taken into account since he not only created the character and the storyline, but also wrote him for several years. Moore was livid about Keanu and said Sting was the only one for the role. If they wanted to go younger, go younger. But choosing a horrible (not to mention dumb) actor to play a brilliant cynic just cause he's box office? That's terrible. Making Constantine American was insult to injury. I bought every issue of Moore's Swamp Thing and his Hellblazer and I loved every panel. I'm not interested in seeing the movie. Sounds like it has very little in common with the character and I'm sick of seeing comic adaptations ruined by the big studios. How many times has this happened to Moore now? Can't wait to see Watchmen. It'll probably star Clay Aiken as The Comedian, Tom Cruise as Rorschach and Paris Hilton as Silk Spectre.
Its odd someone with the handle Batman Jones complaining about Constantine being an American. I liked the movie, but I had no knowledge of the comic.
How's that, Joe Joe? My mom named me after her favorite superhero, who, by the way, was American. Unlike John Constantine.
