This film is destined to fail.
    • Fans have become very turned off to remakes. They know that most remakes are awful.
    • By doing a remake, a filmmaker immediately will have his film compared to the original. And since the original is such a popular classic, the whole world is gonna say, "I liked the first one better." This is inevitable. So, if you know you can't beat the original... why remake it?
    • The original movie was able to reach a very unique niche audience: it had slapstick humor and visuals which would appeal to a child, but also had adult characters, plot, and funny dialogue which would appeal to adults. That's very tough to do. His Nightmare Before Christmas was created to accomplish exactly that, but it just wasn't embraced by children.
    • The guy who wrote the book (Roald Dahl) was able to work with the filmmakers when the first one was created. He's dead now, so he won't be able to contribute to the new film
It has no chance for success. Even if it's a good movie.

    huh???

It blows the pants of Spiderman, X-men, and the old Supermans (except maybe Superman II).

The sequals (two of which were not Burton) have taken some of the luster off it, but Keaton, Nicholson, Basinger and Burton have never been better than they were in Batman.

It was so good that it didn't even seem like a "superhero movie"... it was just a darn good flick no matter how you look at it.

Joel Schumacher+Batman = Worst superhero movie ever

The beauty of this remake is that it is NOT a musical.

    Its the book. Scarier. Creepier.

    The sequel would be cool.

Bring on the Vermicious Knids!!!!! SCRAM!!!!!

(why couldn't my brain remember useful things?)

Isn't that what they said about "Return to Oz", which might have been darn near the most jarring movie I ever saw as a kid.

I don't like what they did with the oompa loompas. Obviously, they shouldn't use the original versions (a tribe of black pygmies), and they shouldn't copy the other movie, so why didn't they use the revised dwarf hippie version?

1 month actually, and I'm talking about the trailer. I started a thread this morning for War of the Worlds, but then edited it to make it an all new trailers thread. Besides WotW, I posted this and the Be Cool trailer. Anyways, it's not a contest (officially), just friendly chiding. :)
