Movie is getting OUTSTANDING reviews! Can't wait!! http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/x_men_first_class/ 8.1 average rate <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9HPDf8mPxds" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/AZyX1YwPIyU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I'm mildly surprised, but I might just be more excited to see this movie than any other this summer. Looks like they did a 5-star job putting it together.
Slow your roll, it's only 9 reviews so far. I think it'll be pretty good, but as is always the problem when Fox is involved, studio meddling and deadlines will prevent it from being as good as it could have been.
3rd one was directed by Brett Ratner. The least that's said about Wolverine Origins the better. Vaughn's got some talent and while I was leary at first I think this may turn out well. January Jones as Emma Frost will be nice regardless.... Spoiler

Haven't watched any previews and don't plan to, but considering who's involved and the outstanding reviews, this is the first film I'm looking forward to in months.
Isn't Emma Frost a teenager in the 1970's in the Wolverine movie? I guess they have basically thrown out the comic and movie continuities.
I read an article, somewhere, that said they had basically dumped the continuity of the Wolverine movies out the window. They have major flaws in this one but for the sake of the story they went for it. A pet peeve of mine is continuity in movies but if it helps the story then I'm okay with it.
Slavishness to continuity can be a problem but at the same time working with the limitations of continuity can create a good movie that appeals to both fanboys and the general public. For example the Christopher Nolan Batmans dump the previous movie and a lot of the comic book continuities but do so because Nolan's vision is about realism and grittiness and being slavish to the previous continuities would clash with that. For Nolan he almost has to dump the continuity to reboot the franchise since his Batman's world is a very stripped down version that is less about the richness and variety of characters but about the story. Compare that to other superhero movies like the X-Men series where a lot of attention is paid to richness of variety of characters so you have characters like Colossus and Juggernaut showing up even though they aren't central to the story and play minor roles. On the other hand Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings sticks fairly closely to Tolkein's continuity. While he might be handcuffing the script to the books he acknowledges that Tolkein's world is rich enough with character and variety that he can still craft great movies without doing much to the continuities. Just from watching the trailers for X-Men First Class it seems to me that First Class is trying to split the difference and try to both craft a new story while also giving a big nod to the richness of the X-Men universe. What I am wondering though is if they are working with the richness of the universe why mess with the continuity? Is Havok and Emma Frost so necessary to the story that they have to have them in this story? It seems to me that there are so many characters in the universe that they could use other characters and still work with the continuity to craft a great story. Working with the continuity also would appeal to the fan boys. The thing that I worry about with a movie like First Class is that the decision to include certain characters might have had less to do with story and more to do with marketing. For instance January Jones is a hot actress right now who is known for a role set in the mid 60's. Maybe it occurred to the producers to cast her in X-Men First Class and they included Emma Frost since that is the X-Men she most resembles rather than worry about continuity.
The Havok one just blows my mind. There's just no reason to bring a character like in him and blow up the continuity. There's nothing that they can do with his powers on screen that couldn't be accomplished by other characters. On top of that, he's what I would consider an obscure character to mainstream movie goers. You could replace him with somebody that no one has heard of and it wouldn't make a difference. The Summers Lineage is so important to the X-Men Universe that it seems silly to blow it up like this and nix any potential to play out the Summers Story on-screen just for a quick fix in terms of a member to add to the original roster. There's just no reason to mess with the fact that he is Cyclop's younger brother. That said, there was no reason for Fox to so badly screw up Cyclops that he's now un-usable on film. Idiots. One of the most popular and important characters in Marvel history and they made him into a weak, pointless moron.
I always thought he was a weak pointless moron *grin* Not to mention he was a bit of a creep. I came aboard with the ALL NEW X-MEN and Cyclops took a backseat to Storm [X-Men's best leader] Wolvie and Rogue. Generally Speaking. . . I liked the All New X-men far more than the original X-Men Mainly i think it was about the Diversity of the Characters and it was the line up that made the X-Men EXPLODE into relevence Rocket River
Hellfire Club, The Marauders and The 'Reavers'[?] [Donald Peirce's group] always interest me. Groups that would take on the X-men . . . . Almost like Gangwars for mutants Rocket River
My initial opinion was this was going to be the worst of the superhero movies coming out this summer. After watching more of the trailers and seeing the reviews that are coming out I'm much more excited. With that said, I really disagree with the continuity changes. I get that they wanted to explore other characters, but some of the changes they made just don't make sense. If they were trying to explore the initial class, that's fine...but you can't do that without angel, jean grey, cyclops, iceman, and beast. If it's a reboot, why not reboot the mistakes they made with the previous franchise? (Such as correcting the issue with Cyclops / Iceman being complete douchebags)
