Which makes me wonder what the benefit of using the title is? It's just going to annoy the people who are interested because they like the book, and people who haven't read the book probably haven't even heard of World War Z before. Waste of the license for the book rights.
Tend to agree and the trailers have been really underwhelming to me at least. World War Z (book) is consider really well done zombie fiction and the movie looks really generic with little if any ties.
I love how everyone who ever reads a book talks about how much of a disappointment the film will be. Not sure if they're being cynical or just trying to act smart because it's the one book they've ever read. There are plenty of examples that can argue the opposite. Michael Crichton, anyone? Tom Clancy?? This looks great. Don't give me that too much CGI crap. Too much CGI = Transformers.
I really don't know what you are talking about. I read all kinds of books and often think the movie can stand up to how great the book was (ex: To Kill a Mockingbird). Have you read World War Z? I'm sure the movie will be entertaining but I hope much of the book is not thrown away to make a story work. Sadly, I know this is what is happening.
Trailer didn't seem too bad but I'm a little skeptical on how good it will be. With as much turmoil, delays and re-writes that the movie has had, it will be a miracle if it is half way descent.
I already said the movie may be entertaining, it's just that there doesn't seem to be any point in using the book's title if you aren't following the book at all. 1) I already know the book is good. 2) I know just based on the trailers that this can't be anything like the book. 3) What's the point of naming it after the book? It certainly doesn't preclude the movie from ending up being good, but naming it WWZ seems to actually hurt them more than help them when they make the changes as drastic as the trailers suggest. I imagine most people wouldn't even have been reminded of World War Z if it was named something else. To be fair it would be a hard movie to make into a faithful movie, since it is more a collection of interviews from a bunch of different survivors after the war is over detailing their experiences and doesn't have a main "hero", Brad Pitt's character is just the interviewer of all the different survivors. It could have been a great TV show/mini series done as flashbacks though, and now the license is going to be tied up by this movie indefinitely and that is something we are unlikely to ever see.
I guess the basic movie premise is just close enough to the book that they had to use the same name. I don't know...it is a little strange though. I don't think it will hurt them too badly though because as popular as the book was/is, it is still a relatively small segment of the market. A HBO series would have been great though
I think I'll be disappointed that it won't follow the book. But after many months of already expecting this, I think I will still enjoy the movie as a zombie flick. So let's hope it's good. The second trailer looks fine to me.
Most likely they decided they can't afford to have a star like Brad Pitt and just have him conducting interviews, so they decided to change it as much as they needed to in order to make him the hero instead.
The book would have to be a mini series and probably done documentary style So I figured the name was all that was being used Rocket River
Everytime i see a movie after reading the book, I am disappointed - that is just a fact, and I suspect it goes for most people. A recent example was Argo, although the movie was pretty darn good! I enjoyed World War Z, but you have to admit, it does not translate into a movie at all. World War Z is just the brand now.
What Michael Crichton movie is better then the book? I'm thinking you didn't see the straight to DVD (iirc) Timeline catastrophe/travesty.
Have you even read World War Z? If you had, you'd understand that this is absolutely NOTHING like the book.....in fact, not one thing is similar. It's like they've taken one TINY portion of the book (The Battle of Yonkers) and extrapolated it to form the entire movie, with more explosions, carnage, and mass hysteria. The entire point of World War Z seems to have been completely lost on the director of this.....it shouldn't even be called World War Z.
This would be like making a movie about the Houston Rockets, except the main characters are old estonian men playing handball in Utah Jazz uniforms. Spoiler Wait, what?
Strangely enough it will be easier for me to appreciate this as a seperate work from the book because it's not going to have any resemblance what so ever. Where if it was partially following the book like most adaptations do, it would be easier for me to pinpoint changes for better or worse, here the whole thing is changed so there really isn't anything to compare them other than is the story good or bad. My expectation is that if I saw this movie without knowing the title I would never have been able to guess what book it was based on.
