I kinda have to agree that this was better than X-Men 1 for me as well. The first movie had some pretty cheesy moments that ruined the whole experience for me (mostly involving Storm). For me they rank as follows: First place - X-Men 2 Second place - Wolverine Third place - X-Men 1 Fourth place - X-Men 3
I guess you have never read a Deadpool comic then. Spoiler The merc with a mouth does not have no mouth (clearly), blades that grow out of his arms like Baraka from Mortal Kombat II, and Cyke's eye-beams. What was the point of changing the character when a super agile guy that teleports and has a holographic image inducer would have posed as much or more threat than what they came up with. Spoiler When I saw the lack of mouth and the blades coming out, I was definitely having a WTF moment, and the eye-beams didn't make it better. Was it bad on the level of things done in Batman and Robin? No. But they were changes that served no purpose Spoiler (outside of having the decapitated dead spinning around and taking down the cooling tower, which i am sure some exec really wanted in the movie, even though it was not significantly better than the earlier scene where Cyclops cuts through half of his school).
hm, well, you're right I didn't know much about Deadpool before this movie came out so I guess that would be an issue. I personally never thought any of the x-men movies were that good. I'm was just glad that the screenplay didn't have any awkward dialogue moments that made me feel embarrassed for the writers.
I never wouldve casted Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. There should not be gay rumors about wolverine. his voice is all wrong. he should be a killing machine not a decorating machine. someone ugly like micky rourke would be great. More of a gravelly voice, and not so much peoples 50 most beautiful people... cmon after all hes been through?? healing factor be damned.
As a non-comic book reader, I enjoyed the movie as an action flick. The one thing that doesnt really make sense to me is bringing gambit into a prequel and then not having him in either of the "sequels" as part of the x-men.
Did you read the comics? What characteristics did Hugh Jackman channel that could not have been more carefully refined by a better casting director? Did you watch the mid 90s cartoon? I think they had the right direction with his voice, to start. We are free to disagree. After all, our base material is just pictures and projecting to the live film medium is entirely subjective. I think Jackman's too pretty boy. Sure, Brad Pitt could've played a great Wolverine but he's not physically right for the role. The actor has to let loose and sound and look like something less than a fully evolved homo sapien. He shouldnt be able to shave and host the Oscars. Dude, articulate your opinion. Get this weak crap out of here.
Of course I've read comics. I totally enjoyed Wolverine being portraying in the comics. But this is a movie we are talking about. Jackman is a good wolverine/Logan. I agreed he needs to be more primal and not mister goodie two shoes. The one that should be blame are the idiot producers, director and writer to portray Logan/Wolverine in this manner. But like I said. There's no way they can't turn the kind of Wolverine that we want into a rated-R Wolverine.
The characterization we both agree we want to see does not require an R rating. Why else can they show R movies on network television? It's about drawing in the female element who hasnt read a lick of comics. He's nice to look at if youre a woman or a man wanting to get women. Wolverine creates absolute horror. He tears and shreds. The best horror movies dont have to SHOW the damage done. It's implied. Where Jackman falls short is that they show the damage and its still not satisfying. He needs to sell it before it happens. He just can't. It's not his fault. He doesn't possess the vocal range and he doesn't look like he's been cut across the face a hundred times. It doesn't have to show on his face. It has to show in his eyes. Most good acting comes from the eyes.
Nah, Jackman isn't the problem. He's a good pick. He had all of that down really well in X2. That whole scene when Stryker's army comes in to the school is excellent. Jackman's Wolverine is a violent, scary badass. Having said that, I've heard nothing but bad things about this movie.
Here is the problem with Jackman; he looks exactly like the perfect Wolverine. But he has no balls or clout as an actor. Think about it, if it was Christian Bale or Ed Norton playing that part they would have taken things in a more "Wolverine" direction.... Jackman was quoted as saying he wanted a dark movie, a dark character, and an R rating. But Jackman is simply a pawn of an actor, does what he is told, probably a pleasure to work with. Thats his problem. He didn't study the comic character, he didn't get into character, he played the role however the studio wanted to swing it. So no Jackman is not a good Wolverine. The Deadpool thing also pissed me off. Not only is he a solid character as is but had they played their cards right they could have easily had a spinoff movie with a new star. A star that is appealing as a comic character and as an actor (Reynolds). Instead you get an over the top mindless drown joke of a character. Way to go
Like I said before. My main issue is his voice. If size was an issue then they never could have made Lord of the Rings.
Good point on LotR size, but I guess they didn't think that size was a defining characteristic of Wolverine as they were Hobbits. As for voice... you said 'Did you read the comics?'. Yes I did. And read is the key word here. When you read... everyone has their own idea of what the characters sound like. To me he sounds fine.
I have no problem with Jackman as wolverine. The problem I have is that no matter who they put in as wolverine, the movie would still suck balls because of the directors/scripts/studio ****. I can't think of one damn actor that could save the movie solely by himself. I actually think Mickey Rourke would be a step down, but admittedly I don't have any ideas as to who would be better.
I enjoyed it as well. I like the guy they got to play Sabretoothe At 1st look . . . if did not think he fit the roll but after watching it .. .I liked it. I generally liked the Movie I give it a Solid B+ Rocket River
I kept hoping that they would say something simple like It really wasn't Wade but just some thing that had his powers I will have to check the Wiki but they never really defined his powers beyond healing [which he supposedly got from wolverine] If they were to make a Deadpool movie. . .I suspect they will either throw this out. . .or simply say . . .WADE's Deadpool is Weapon XII Rocket River
