RT User Reviews: 82%. IMDb User Reviews: 7.8. Metacritic User Reviews: 8.7. Once again, outperforming expectations at the box office.
I think generally people go into these movies with lower expectations than critics and fanboys If someone expects LORD OF THE RINGS level of acting, production and CGI I think they will be disappointed Rocket River
I feel you can say that about 99.9% of movies I agree, just messing. Personally, I consider the CGI to be of higher quality, as expected because it's been 15 years since LOTR; technology improves.
I'm looking forward to your report. I'm definitely curious about this movie. I want it to be good, but my hopes are kind of low that it will be.
I saw it a couple of days ago, I've never played a Warcraft game so I feel like there was a lot I didn't fully understand and they don't do the best job of developing characters so it's probably one of those movies that are for the fans. I wouldn't watch it again, but I might watch a sequel if they make one with the hopes that they'll do a better job.
As my experience, I like it as if it was a 10, because how much I played the RTS genre's. Taking that out, I'll give it a 7 objectively. Needed to be longer. I'm not saying that because "WE WANT MORE" syndrome: once you watch it, you will understand. I think for a sequel, the would not have to worry about developing the universe as much, and can just focus on the story line. I would expect it to be improved on the original. Wouldn't have to cram. Most consider the latter LOTR movies better, if I am not mistaken.
Just got back and thought I'd give my impressions of the flick, which we saw in 3D. If you like special effects, and our youngest son is majoring in "animation arts" in college, basically learning how to create the sorts of things you see in a film like Warcraft, then regardless of your opinion of the plot, the screenplay and so on, you will enjoy the film. It has the best animation of any film I've seen since Avatar, and that was the consensus of the 4 of us. Simply stunning animation. See it in 3D. It won't be the same experience, otherwise. Not even close, in my opinion. The plot? The folks who made this were and are obviously passionate about the game. I mean really passionate about the game. If you have never played one of the original Warcraft games, or the online version, World of Warcraft, then you are quickly going to get confused as to the plot. Heck, the plot's confusing enough, and both of our kids, as well as myself, have played some or all of the Warcraft games. Travis Fimmel, who's so good in the History Channel's, The Vikings, is excellent, but not given nearly enough to say or do. That's true with all the major roles in the film, at least when it comes to having things to say. It's pretty much non-stop action, set in a spectacular world of incredible architecture and magic. It's also obviously the 1st film of a series of films, with this one largely based on the original Warcraft game, and I suspect that the following films, if they are made (if this one makes enough money, and I've heard that it's a huge hit in Asia), will follow the plots of the games that followed "game one." They need someone who knows how to write a good screenplay, and damn the game, for the following films. I'd give it 7/10 - but for animation? 10/10
People across MMO boards and other boards have said that watching it again helped a lot with understanding it. Maybe if it is the money, a friend of yours will pay for you?
Money isn't the issue, I just don't think it's worth a 2nd viewing. Then again, you do have a point, it really might be better after watched twice. If I thought it was really bad, for example like I thought about the Batman V Superman movie after the first time I watched it, then I'd try to see it again to see if I had the same opinion but I didn't hate Warcraft I just thought it was okay but kind of shallow by way of plot. It was pretty straightforward even if you don't really know the characters and their motivation can seem random. I'd really just rather wait for a sequel.
Thanks for the feedback. Never seen Fimmel in anything else, but have heard about him in The Vikings feature.
Right back at you! If you haven't seen The Vikings, Fimmel is tremendous in it and the writing is fantastic. It's not on Netflix, but it is on Amazon Prime (exclusively in the US, I think). If you have the History Channel on demand, it might be there, of course. Just be sure to watch it starting with episode 1, season 1. An FYI - there's some nudity here and there (not a whole bunch, but some), and it gets pretty gory, but not as gory as the Vikings were back in the day, I'm guessing.
So do I. The problem might be that Travis Fimmel is having a blossoming film career. Considering the surprising success of Warcraft at the box office, especially with the reviews I've seen, if Fimmel didn't "get paid" for "film 1," he's going to get a big payday for the sequels, I bet. A series like The Vikings on a cable channel like the History Channel may not be able to afford him much longer. :-(-
