First review gives me hope that I will enjoy the movie. 2nd review, I could only get through 3 minutes because it is Panser who is super annoying (I don't even know if she liked the movie or not and frankly I don't care). To address one thing from the first review for those that don't know about the story. The junior wizard guy they talk about is Khadgar. I can't comment on the actor or how he played him, but my guess is he was included because he is a really major player as the story continues and it would have been even stranger for him to pop up in a future film and do his thing and no one knows who he is.
Never played WOW, but I have played quite a few MMORPG's, and I've played a ton of Diablo (not an MMO, but similar). While I enjoy playing them, they aren't exactly renowned for their strong narrative's. Is this movie actually following a Warcraft story, or is it just a fantasy movie in the Warcraft universe to take advantage of the name recognition? I'm not too interested in seeing it onw way or the other, I'm just curious.
I haven't seen it so I can't say how true it stays to the story, but this chapter is the story line from the RTS Warcraft I. As MMO's go, Warcraft is somewhat unique in that there was already a narrative laid out before it came out. The MMO just picks up after WCIII and moves forward. The original Vanilla game set out to introduce players to the world. There wasn't much of a narrative to it other than you need to go here and help these people out or go to this zone and clear out the bad guys. There were some fights between Alliance and Horde but there was no over arching story that encompassed the whole game. The expansions are different. Each has its own narrative that spans the expansion. For the first few when the expansion was done so was that chapter of the story. But in the last few the end game for the expansion has led into the next one. While the stories are pretty formulaic due to the fact that its a game and not literature, they are pretty in depth. There are lots of companion books that go with the games and even more that line out the history of the Warcraft Universe. If the movie does well and they decide to make other films, they have a lot of material to choose from. I would expect to get a film that covers the events of Arthas, the main antagonist of WCIII because that is probably one of the more interesting stories from the games. It would make a compelling fantasy genre story and has enough source material to fill a 2 hour movie.
You are right, this story is loosely based upon Warcraft 1: Orcs and Humans other titles: WC2 and WC3 (with Thrall) Spoiler
Nothing really new to update here. Domestic critics not feeling the movie. IGN gave it a 7. Overseas has been basically a roaring success, outperforming expectations at the box office and garnering good reviews from critics and audiences. Something to note: http://www.ibtimes.com/warcraft-cou...d-import-key-win-wanda-disney-rivalry-2376500 China will be the make or break for the movie, in terms of a profit or not. But the movie will follow the storyline of the RTS WC1 game (surely was answered above).
BTW I found 2 movies with motion capture tech that might be similar in box office numbers Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/...eoftheapes.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/...noftheapes.htm Rise: 482 million total Dawn: 711 million total
they stream it on Twitch (not 100 percent sure) now anyone try that link before the release if interested, do not shoot the messenger https://www.twitch.tv/warcraft
probably just streaming Global premiere red carpet, interviews and not the actual movie lol not holding my breath
Warcraft review (in other countries: Warcraft-The Beginning) Spoiler I saw it twice (twice is the charm) and wanted to do a quick review. What a spectacular display of CGI - the world of mages and arcane magic spells Picture has potential yet flawed in its endeavor to draw masses. A potential sequel should tackle those flaws and do better there. - Fan movie: as such very detailed, produced with love and care - Motion Capture system - very good to top notch Durotan is done otherworldly - CG and optics - top notch, nearly a decade after Avatar - leading the industry - Writing, narratives - lacking, average - Pace: Rushed, hectic especially in the beginning of the movie From one place to another place (Orc world - Ironforge - Stormwind - Karazhan) Intro of the movie resembles a game intro not a movie intro. Scarce introduction of characters - Characters: HUGE PLUS: Orc side AVERAGE CAST: Human side - Editing: They compressed a 160 minute movie into a 110 minute movie - many scenes cut (in hope for a Director's Cut version) - Directing (Duncan Jones) - alright - Reminder: Game movies are very hard to make and be accepted by the wide audience It can get a tad too campy For fans it is way easier, because they feel connected to the WC characters already - Music and soundtrack should be very good, maybe not GoT good but fitting for war scenes Verdict: 7.2/10 (5 stars out of 10 for advanced technology used for CG alone) for how epic this flick was and the Orc side. Solid fantasy flick with obvious flaws (Most movie goers and critics except for fans would not know much about the background, might get lost or confused. Missed opportunity here, could have been much better. Zog Zog! Couple of movies I watched this year in comparison: Civil War - 8.6 DeathPool - 7.7 Batman vs. Superman - 6 Jungle Book - 8.0 X-men: Apocalypse - around 7
I went and saw the movie last night, not the greatest movie in the world, but definitely worth watching. Basically following Warcraft I story line with more of a focus on humans. Don't want to comment on the story line too much at this point, don't want to ruin it for others, but as huge fan of the original Warcraft series ( not so much wow), I really did enjoy the movie
