I saw the movie on friday afternoon and could not believe there wasn't a thread for it on clutchfans. IMHO it was the 2nd best "guy" movie so far in 2008, after "The Bank Job". Yeah parts of the plot were silly and some of the morality crap they tried to feed us but wtf would y'all prefer. The comic that it was based on was full of so much crazy and ridiculous stuff that I was sorta surprised with what they got out of it. Its a good movie and quite entertaining. Raven Lunatic, totally agree with you on Angelina Jolie. I never was a huge fan but the anorexic look does not suit her. She still has insane lips though.
I saw it tonight thumbs up for the action thumbs down for the plot thumbs up for Jolee (best looking dead chick ever) thumbs down for the whole loom thing giving orders, wtf was that about? thumbs down fro freeman cursing towards the end and at the end, his character was classy up to that point.
Disagree. Shoot 'em up was good. I mean were you can't be expecting realistic documentary when you go to watch a movie like that. This movie was good. Slightly better than Shoot 'em up and Crank. Same genre.
Great action...weak plot. Spoiler Can somebody explain why - at the end of the movie - none of the assassins questioned the validity of Sloan's kill orders? I mean, c'mon. The guy already admitted he was manufacturing kill orders, what would stop him from making up ones with all the assassins names on them?
Spoiler dude seriously. it wouldve been more interesting if the reason why the names came up was because he was making them kill innocent people. then by killing him their name would come off the "list". pretty weak story line. loved it for the action, its like watching a mike myers movie, you cant complain for the lack of substance, its just there to make you laugh.
Pretty entertaining flick. If you like assassin movies, do yourselves a favor and go watch this. Some great car chase and shooting scenes.
Finally caught this myself...usually when I hear that a movie is beginning to end action, I'm dissapointed. I guess other people's opinions on what constitutes a lot of action is different from mine. Don't get me wrong, this had quite a bit of action, but it wasn't quite as frenetic as I thought, or memorable. Sure you had bullets curving, cars flipping, trains falling of bridges...but aside from maybe the train sequence or the viper scene, I'm not gonna fondly remember any of it. The storyline didn't bother me too much; it's a typical comic plot. But the question is not how the assassins were taking orders but why they were so content to follow the status quo. Sure I get Jolie's explanation, but I personally still would have doubts about the whole process. It kind of reminded me a bit of Minority Report in that way. The only other thing that bothered me is Gibson; he was kind of annoying through much of the movie; talked a little too much. Overall, not a disappointment but not DVD worthy either.
Pretty damn mediocre. As for Jolie, the problem is not merely her anorexia. Her face (1) is all messed up and (2) seems incapable of expression.
This movie was pretty ridiculous...the whole plot/story line really was over the top. I found my self laughing at points they were trying to be serious in. The loom - really? Action movies don't have to be stupid, unfortunatley this one was. The action was alright, nothing spectacular, but not bad. Over all a 4/10
what does this mean? don't worry about spoilers because I sincerely doubt this movie will ever grace my eyeballs.
Spoiler After the main guy figures out that Morgan Freeman has been manipulating the "loon of fate"...ok, I'll give you a second to stop laughing...and makes him kill his own father, he attacks their "factory". By using thousands of rats with tiny little bombs strapped to them. He gathered these rats by using peanut butter as bait in a dump. Seriously. No, I swear, I'm not kidding.
That was pretty dumb, but the scene right after where he runs in and start killing people off was pretty awesome.
I 3rd the recommendation of Shoot em up. I can't see how anyone didn't find it hilariously awesome. It was the perfect so bad it's good movie. Only that's what the film was actually going for. I saw it at the drafthouse in Austin and people would stand up and cheer during some of the action scenes. A fun movie experience. Wanted takes itself a little more seriously. Not a perfect movie, but good mindless summer fun. It looks good and the plot is just interesting enough to keep you involved in the story.
