So yeah, another great Pixar film. The link with Carl and the balloons/house is just amazing to see play out. This movie is a little more 'out there' than Pixar films usually are (and I know it's saying a lot since we are talking about animated 'kids' movies), but it's not hard to let that pass. Really good time. I also am pretty happy with the new 3D stuff. So much better, tech wise, than old 3D and it really makes the movies look awesome, even when they aren't doing the cheesy 'throw stuff at the viewer' crap.
This movie was awesome. But I saw it in 3D today (first time I saw a feature film in 3D) which I kind of regret. The colors aren't as vivid, and the 3D stuff was disorienting for me. That wasn't worth the extra money. I loved the movie, though. Very touching.
Really? I thought the 3D was so much better. Seemed very vivid in my theater. Maybe I'm just expecting the blurry, red-and-blue mess of old 3D.
I never expected to see THAT many people crying from an animated movie. The ironic thing is, the adults were the ones in tears... while their kids didn't recognize the sadness/emotions being displayed so they couldn't relate. Interesting. Great, refreshing movie.
It was really interesting... when the movie ended, NO ONE in the theater got up to leave. It was almost like everyone had to collect themselves a bit before standing up. Not even the kids were ready to go. I've been to a lot of movies, including plenty that were known 'tearjerkers,' and have never seen a collective theater so seemingly touched by a movie. Kudos, Pixar. Another job well done.
Hmm, I enjoyed the movie alot. I'm surprised no one is has given the soundtrack any credit! The music was awesome, especially during the flashbacks. Props to Michael Giacchino. Good job Pixar.
THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME! Saw it last night, loved it. My favorite Pixar movie so far, but they have been all great.
Anyone who has ever truly been in love would find it almost impossible to have a dry eye after the opening sequence of the film. After that, and that success at getting to invest and care about those characters, it was all just about development and craziness. The big bird was a MacGuffin of course, albeit a delightfully insane one, and very funny. The dogs were hilarious, Dug was exactly what everyone who has ever wondered 'What if my dog could talk?' would be. The mean Alpha dog with the chipmunk voice was just so ridiculous and hilarious, and even better that all the other dogs could not keep from laughing at him. Every little bit, you could tell that the filmmakers were just letting go, and having fun. And it worked pretty much every time. Unlike when Disney put their name on Meet the Robinsons, which was similar in its lunacy, but generally failed to be anything more than a mess. Up will be a good one for BluRay, for sure.
I agree with everything you posted. This movie had real heart, personality and character and that's hard to find in these animated movies (which I've seen and own every one ever made because of my son). Up is an instant classic in my book with the likes of the Toy Stories, Shrek 1-2, Wall-e, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. But, unlike you, I actually like Meet the Robinsons.
Has anyone ever watch a 3D movie at HOME? how is that experience? I've seen some 3D Blu-Ray movies that comes with the red/green glasses ...
i really liked the short movie in the beginning...thought the movie itself was great too...also saw it in 3d, thought it really wasnt necessary, easily could have done without .
The bluray 3D stuff is using the same tech as the 3-D movies did back in the 80's meaning all that red and green BS, from every review i've read it's not worth it.
After it ended, I just sad there with misty eyes and said to myself, "Wow...that was REALLY sad." But the more I thought about it the more I really loved and understood the heart of the movie. Especially when he was looking through his wife's old book when he reached the waterfall (I lost it for a minute) and when he was able to let the house go. Great message on enjoying life and the people around you and not worrying so much about material possessions. So I had all these philosophical thoughts running through my head when leaving the theater, and of course all the kids around me were laughing about the squirrels. Seriously...how do they make a movie that adults can find so touching and profound and that children can find funny or lighthearted? Geniuses I tell ya. Great, great movie. Really makes you think about life and what you cherish.
agreed. I thought wall-e was pretty boring and it had like 99% on rottentomatoes if I remember correctly.. The reviewers are always on Pixar's jock
Seriously, man... if you go see this and do not walk away pleased then I'm pretty sure you are just trying to be anti-mainstream. The reviewers are always on Pixar's jock because no movie studio has produced quality pictures as frequently and steadily. When your unanimously worst movie is Cars, then you know you are doing something right. 99% of studios would kill to ever produce something as good as Cars... let alone have that be their worst movie. It just baffles my mind that some people are not Pixar fans. To each their own, I guess.
