I don't ever remember it being mentioned she was pregnant in the first, although it has been awhile since I've seen it. In any case, the trailer makes it look like the war started before she was even killed, like it was happening during the relationship. All those lines by Lucian in the trailer almost indicate they rose up against the vampires because they were tired of being slaves. In the first movie, I remember Lucian saying he was a loyal servant to the vampires up until Viktor killed his only daughter. So a couple things could happen here. Either all the clips we see of Sonja in the trailer are from the beginning of the movie because she is killed rather quickly in order to bring forth the war. In which case, here character and her relationship to Lucian is rushed along. Or, they ignore the back story from the first film almost completely and basically use the old slaves rising up against oppression angle. This is from IMDB: I guess it's the latter. Not a big deal I suppose, but it would have been nice for them to have kept it faithful. I mean honestly, does it really matter if we care about Sonja that much. It's really about Lucian and Victor and then later Selene and Michael.
I seriously cannot belive thais movie is being made. I loved the first Underworld, but they then ruined it with the sequel. Underworld 2 was horrible, and rushed the storyline and just created whatever they wanted in the second movie to fit how they wanted the end to work. It just was not at all as cohesive a story and plot as the first movie. Such as the father of the brothers covering up all their acts and all was completely ludicrous.

Prequal to Underworld 1 Honestly, I love Kate Beckinsale and am sad she will not be appearing in this film. However, how can anyone not like two classic fictional monsters ripping eachother apart? Also, this series has some of the best looking werewolves of any werewolf film I have ever seen. Excellent job with the costumes and special effects.
i probably will see it but i find the commercials annoying with the name of the movie and release date scrolled across the top. i dont know if thats going to be the new trend but i dont like it distracts from the movie. the commercials for the Biggie movie do the same thing but across the bottom
Actually Beckinsale did make an appearance, she was in the movie at the end, they flashed forward to the other storyline and I did like how they told the history of Lucian and even his black buddy from the other 2 movies.
Saw the movie last night. It did an excellent job of following the story line set during the first movie. Even the scene where Sonja is killed in Lucians memories during the first movie are almost an exact copy in the latest movie. I like Kate Backensale better than the new girl (as did my wife) but I really have to say the new movie is my favorite. And for those that must have Kate Backensale in the movie...she makes an appearance at the end.
Also so it last night. Good movie, I didn't see the 1st 2 but that didn't matter for this one. I'll ignore that it makes no sense that they killed sonja but somehow her kid lives.
Her kid did not live. If you are refering to the hybrid Lycan/Vampire in the first underworld movie with Kate Backensale it is not Sonja's child.
