Agreed. This was never going to be anything more than a big budget popcorn flick and was made specifically for the fans that are just looking for a couple hours of escapism. Hell Bay even said as much on his board: Source: http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forum/showthread.php?p=93240#post93240
Ah, I see. Yeah, I kinda agree with you about that... The only complaint I got about it right now even before seeing it, the length... 144 minutes seems a little long. Anyways, a cute pic of Fox and LaBeouf... Spoiler What the hell is Tyrese wearing... Spoiler That one looks pretty hot... Megan Fox Spoiler
It might, the first one hit just over 300K... $319,014,499 And to respond to my own post about the length of the second one being long... I forget, I didn't realize the first one was almost just as long... so I guess I shouldn't really complain, I didn't think or notice that the first one was just as long.
Wow, I have to say, after watching this movie... it was severely underrated by the critics... these damn critics. I thought this one was better than the first one.... and wow... the hot Megan Fox scenes... it was a pretty good movie overall.... not a 25% movie like it has been rated on RT.
It may be one of the reasons people come out of the theater more satisfied, if they go in with a lower expectation. This movie is not the second coming of the Dark Knight, or Spiderman 2, or anything like that. It's not perfect. It was, in my opinion, a step up from the first Transformers movie in terms of action.
Action movies in which character depth and plot development are discarded for nonstop loud noises and explosions should not last 2 and a half hours.
Maybe a criteria for reviewing action movies should be that if you don't fit the demographic, then you shouldn't be qualified to critique it. Bay said it himself, the movie is for the fans; not uptight, snobbish movie critics. And while the fan reaction is a little worse than the first movie, it's still at a healthy 68%. So it's not only interesting that there's such a huge disparity among critics and fans 68-20, but it'll also be worth seeing how well the movie fares over the coming weeks. Has any movie that has scored so horribly among critics put up huge box office numbers? And before anyone says Phantom Menace, that movie managed a 63%.
Fans want it to succeed...they're looking for it to be good. If they're coming out of the movie and quickly saying, "eh, it wasn't that good" to the tune of about 30%, that's pretty significant. won't affect my decision to go see it, though. i'm sure i will. and i agree with you....i can't imagine it's going to put up huge numbers with these sorts of reviews. they'll keep SOME people from going to see it at all...and it sounds like it's not the sort of film that draws people back to see it more than once.
That should be the tag-line for every action movie... Seriously I can stomach maybe 1 hr and 30 mins of non stop carnage but for almost 3 hrs of Robot fisting i get sick of it...
Honestly though, it was pretty good, so good I guess that it didn't feel long. The first Transformers was 144 minutes... that didn't seem that long either.. idk.. ONE REASON TO WATCH IF ALL ELSE FAILS: MEGAN FOX. 'Nuff said.
The only thing I did not like about the first one was the length of that final action sequence. It got a little boring. But I am definitely looking forward to this one.
Terminator Salvation losing at the Box Office a month ago is a prime example of just how much the internet rating system of movies has started to affect consumer choice.
