I loved the cartoons as much as the next guy...but c'mon, the movie was damn good fun, the special effects were insane (and got robbed of an Oscar imo) and the action was intense. The storyline was serviceable enough (excluding the Australian girl's subplot which had promise but went nowhere fast). I'll agree that Megatron was a little too complex in alien form and probably should have been simplified. And while I was skeptical of the tweaks to the other characters, they turned out just fine (Bumblebee/camarro, Optimus/long-nosed rig).
I think the first movie will fall into the category of "watchable" movies that weren't fantastic, but i'll always watch when i come across it on HBO, Showtime, TBS, TNT (in a few years), etc... it wasn't great, but it was just good enough to suck me in whenever i'm channel surfing... like The Replacements and every Adam Sandler movie having said that, i am damn looking forward to seeing the second one.
Transformers babe: Teresa Palmer I'm surprised that Bay didn't go with a brunette with blue eyes- that seems to be one of his signatures. Maybe she will die her hair for the movie. link maybe, barely NSFW Spoiler
i guess spoiler this Spoiler the dinobots never merged to form a 'super robot' of any sorts they were just insanely powerful that were able to take down Devastator by sheer strength and surprisingly intelligently placed attacks at the points where the different constructicons joined. From what I can recall from the comics and the cartoons the Decepticons have much more 'super robot' groups than the autobots. I think the first group that the autobots had that merged were the aerialbots. But they usually fought against the combaticons and stunticons not the constructicons. In one of the cartoons I think one of Perceptors experiments gone badly actually gave grimlock ridiculously high levels of intelligence which he used really well but it took away his brute nature and aggressiveness in an effort to save the autobots he transferred that intelligence to the Computron the merged from of the technobots. He then return to his former dumb ass-kicking self.
More news from AICN: ... we're starting to get reports about who might be in contention for certain roles. One of the first names being bandied about is Jonah Hill. "Hill (Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) will provide the comic relief as a sidekick to Shia's Sam Witwicky. ...says THIS ARTICLE at Entertainment Weekly, which goes on to indicate Hill is said to be in contention for the role of Shia's college roommate. and a funny little cartoon: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gGQsthDNGW0&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gGQsthDNGW0&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
The best part of this whole movie was the chick. The robots personalities made them seem like they were 9 and I can't stand the Even Stevens kid.
I thought Shia was the comic relief? I actually would very much like to watch a movie with Jonah and Shia, I think their similar improv style would make for some funny stuff. Not sure I want it in a Transformers movie though.
I'm surprised at how many of you didn't like the first one. It certainly wasn't going to win any oscars or anything, but big robots blowing s**t up and beating the crap out of each other = a damn fun movie. Imo. To each his own. I can't wait for the second one.
But he is apparently going to co-write and produce a movie version of 21 Jump Street, probably in the vein of the movie version of Starsky and Hutch.
Using those Michael Smith models in the youtube videos previously posted would make Transformers 2x better. Let's face it, we're there to see giant robots kick ass. Half the robots looked like piles of scrap metal w/ few identifying traits. I loved the movie walking out of it, now I have absolutely no interest in watching it.
A good deal of casting and scene spoilers for this movie leaked today: Here is a link to them: Transformers 2: LEAKED INFO! And for the lazy here is the article plus the leaked casting call sheet from the above link: Spoiler Transformers 2: LEAKED INFO! Source: Ace Showbiz As we've already heard, the sequel to the robot smashing hit will be titled: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. What you haven't heard or seen is the leaked information about some of the robots involved and a major scene in the movie. Transforming Characters: Arcee - a motorcycle (which, for fanboys like me, we know is named after the only female Autobot in the original Transformers: The Movie) The Twins - an Ice Cream Truck, which sounds incredibly goofy, until you read the description of what they do… Stinger - possibly a Porsche, but unconfirmed R8 - character's name is unknown, but transforms into an Audi R8 (I knew Tony Stark wasn't the only one who'd have one of these) Wheels (or Wheelbot) - possibly some kind of Go-Kart (let's hope it's not like Wheelie from the original TF…most annoying Autobot ever, besides Blurr) Jetfire - a Blackbird jet (which again, is just plain AWESOME that he's in this) "Constructicon Earth Mover" - name is unconfirmed, but if that's true, we'll probably get Devastator (Constructicons, not the tank in the first movie) Human Characters: Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson will return, as will of course Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Added to the list are Matthew Marsden, Andrew Howard and Ramon Rodriguez. Also, LaBeouf and Fox were scheduled to film at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC June 5th and 6th. The scene seems to center around searching for something in the museum related to the Decepticons. The Call Sheet What follows is the Call Sheet that leaked all of this wonderful information, as well as a few other tidbits. This contains many spoilers for the scenes, so be warned, read at your own risk… (click on the pic to enlarge)
I'm a little disappointed that Shia is coming back. If Megan Fox wasn't so hot, I'd hate it too. Even then I just know that story-wise, with these 2 and Michael Bay back, it's not gonna be too impressive.
Wow, there is a lot more info out there that this site didn't talk about. Spoiler The title, Revenge of the Fallen, according to a trusted source of Devin Faraci from CHUD, refers to a character in recent comics who would be like a fallen Angel, aka Lucifer. Though I would suppose Unicron is their actual Devil. Anyways, according to the wiki, Primus, a "twin" of Unicron (giant planet sized robot) created the first 13 Transformers to help him fight Unicron, but Fallen betrayed him and sided with Unicron. It looks like Megatron becomes Galvatron (I think it's most likely that the return of Megatron as Galvatron is what the mean by "the Fallen" since he fell in battle, but maybe the character "Fallen" is the one who brings him back instead of Unicron). Arcee transforms into 3 seperate motorcycles (so that she has enough mass to be as tall as the other Transformers). Lots of info and behind the scenes pics here: http://transformerslive.blogspot.com/
I liked the 1st one. Shia isn't a good actor, but I hate the lack of continuity when you make a sequel with a new actor. It feels wrong.. I'd rather have the original guy in there in this case, cause I don't think he's THAT bad.
