I just saw this movie tonight and loved it. One thing to consider for those who couldn't find a message in this movie.

Paul and Eli were the same person.

They were played by the same actor, but they were two seperate characters.

I really loved this movie. The scene at the very end in the bowling alley was amazing. I liked this film alot more than No Country for Old Men. I think it was in part due to there being more character development in this film.

This was the feel good movie of the year. "If you've got a milkshake and I've got a straw..."

"Why are talking about slitting my throat?"

Okay, now i've seen both of these movies, i have to say no country was the overrated movie. they tried to make matrix like shootouts in an old western format. that was pretty silly, couldn't get past it, also I thought crowe mailed it in, bale brought his usual brillance.

on no country for old men, I thought it was visaully stunning, love all the shots of the drilling. when the derrick was on fire, I couldn't stop take my eye off the screen.

    Question...

Did you check the titles of the movies you were watching?

You just described 3:10 To Yuma and There Will Be Blood.

Neither of those was No Country for Old Men.

And fwiw, I vastly preferred There will be blood over no country for old men.

No country had more intense scenes, but the ending was just a drawn out bore for me. And I found Tommy Lee to be pretty much completely useless in the movie, unfortunately.

There will be blood had me entertained throughout. Thought it might be kinda boring, and it did drag at the beginning, but my eyes were glued to the screen the whole time.

The thing that made Steel Magnolias so great wasn't just the lightsaber duels, but it was the feeling of darkness that permeated the whole film. Luke finding out about this father, the evil he had been fighting AGAINST up to that point, the loss of his hand, even if the electronic one is just as good. Han Solo, his friend, being frozen. It really was a vastly superior movie to Brokeback Mountain. But that's mainly because I didn't like Jar Jar Binks.

Ah, I see. I do agree with your take on Yuma. It had potential ... but turned way too melodramatic. Just a mindless cowboy flick with some pretty scenery as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't watched SNL in about five years until Saturday after we were done floating the river.

The cop from Superbad was playing Daniel Plainview. It was ver funny.

No Country FTW. The Coen Brothers nailed the book as well as they could of. A lot of Bell's role was cut out at the end, but I don't think they could have done Sigurh any better. He was perfect. I don't understand homeboy above saying TLJ was useless. I thought the movie was cast terrifically.

I loved There Will be Blood as well though.

    No doubt.

I thought it was quite possibly the best movie I have ever seen.

There was no way in my mind that it wasn't going to win Best Picture / Best Director / Best Screenplay / Best Supporting Actor

Watched this movie last night. Started @ 11:30pm and thought I was going to fall asleep during the movie. Didn't even bat an eye. This movie was gripping. DDL's character kept me in it the whole movie. That guy is just scary. I thought he was going to start killing everyone. He would eat Sigurah for breakfast.

The only bad thing about the movie is that Eli character. It seemed so over the top and when he went on his sermons I wanted to beat him down. It was annoying and grating. I was hoping they would shed a bit more light on Paul. His family didn't really acknowledge him at all except for Eli.

    Milkshake scene was awesome!!!

3:10 to Old Men's Blood was a hell of a film.

I also was confused on the Paul and Eli characters.

about the church scenes, they did bother me also but the one thing I think they may be closer to real life back then more than we realize.
