so you're going to see a movie about aliens. about life forms that exist only in the storyteller's mind. and you can't suspend reality long enough to follow water being harmful to them. don't see lilo and stitch, either. you'll hate it.
It's not that water hurts them, it's that there's water in our atmosphere, just being on our planet would kill them, especially since these beings that were far more advanced than us seem to travel naked.
come on now. . . next thing u will be having me wonder how the hell THAT PARTICULAR alien followed him home Rocket River
I'm not religious but if you are pretty much you would love the movie Signs. I mean the whole Alien vs human/water thing is like the Exorcist and the Alien is representing the Demon. **** thinking about it right now it;s pretty much rip off The Exorcist and I just recently saw it last week. Losing Faith and redeeming Faith. Man that movie was a messed. I enjoy the whole Alien mysterious theme and all a sudden it turn to a religious freak movie brought to you by no other then Mel Gibson himself.
huh? i'm a Jesus freak, and this isn't at all why I like this movie. rip off of the Exorcist? maybe you're talking about the OTHER movie called Signs...starring Mel Wibson....a lesser movie, to be sure, but one that merits some critical acclaim. it wasn't water as a religious symbol...it's that the mundane nuances of him and his family...the things he ultimately saw as burdens to him each day...the things that were burdens to his family...were ultimately the blessings that saved his life. his little girl leaves the water all around the house..annoying to him. his son has asthma...troublesome to him. his brother was a hacker at the plate...keeping him from advancing his career. but all these things worked together in the end to point him toward something bigger than himself. thus the name...Signs. the movie wasn't brought to you by mel gibson...it was brought to you by m. night shaymalan. he's the one who created the story. he's the one who has a spiritual element to virtually all of his movies.
I liked the concept of "Unbreakable" and a lot of the story and what happened, but there was just so much dreariness and the like that the movie dragged a little too much for me. I've not seen Signs, and I probably won't see The Village.
MadMax, go watch The Exorcist before having this arguement with me. It's exactly like what you've explain to a point.
i'm not arguing with you. just kidding. i can't convince you to like the movie. and, of course, i've seen the Exorcist. many times. the Exorcist shows a Catholic rite of exorcism which includes the sprinkling of holy water....water certainly has its place in Christian theology as a symbol...i won't argue that. again, i'm a jesus freak and i didn't see the alien as a demon at all....this wasn't about demons...this was about a man's troubled faith...and God using the mundane nuances of one man's own life to point him back to God. i guess we'd have to ask shaymalan if he borrowed from that concept. but The Exorcist is hardly an orignal concept, danasty...exorcisms have been performed in the Catholic church for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. i somehow doubt that shaymalan intended to borrow from that movie, in particular.
No, the most ridiculous thing was that a bunch of guys who live out in the sticks, on farms, didn't have one shotgun between them. One old Remington w/ a few shells would have made for a a 30 minute movie. Signs WAS amazingly dumb throughout. Rural people w/ no firearms. Naked aliens who can somehow fly faster than light yet can't figure out a doorknob or build sensors telling them that there's a whole lot of water on Earth. An alien whose hind legs are so powerful he can jump 30 feet up onto someone's roof, yet can't kick a door down.... The alien invasion angle was worst than that of ID4... Here's a question - would the aliens have gotten lost if Gibson had burned down his cornfield, and their nav beacon as a result? Why would alien scouts, somehow navigating their way across star systems with their spaceship, have to create flattened paterns in fields of produce just to tell them where to land??? For spoilers to The Village go to Aint it Cool.com. It also sounds asinine. I loved 6th Sense & Unbreakable though, looks like Shamalamadingdong is 2-2 now...
Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson were in it. They worked well together in Die Hard 3 so what the hell, i figured i'd check this one out. What a waste of 6 bucks. I thought signs was alright but not my favorite. I did enjoy the beating of the Alien with the baseball bat though. I've seen the previews but they haven't reall drawn me in. I'll probably wait until it comes to Starz.
i think you guys have entirely missed the point of the movie by spending so much time on the details. shaymalan doesn't give a rat's ass about the details you're concerned with. he's telling a story that he feels is bigger than the players, themselves. bigger than these kinds of details. the very same criticism could be leveled at hitchcock...and he'd shrug his shoulders and say you're missing the point with him, too.
I'm comparing Mel Gibson character to Father Damien Karras of the Exorcist. Both were losing faith and questioning it because of the complications came into their life. They both gain it back at the end. The movie Signs where it start off giving sign there something to come and the people must face it. IT's almost the same as Father Lankester Merrin saw the sign that he once again must face the evil. There are other similarities in the movie that he have borrowed from. It not obvious since M. Night a big fan of this kind of genre to be taking pieces from one of the greatest horror movie to ever put on celluloid.
NO you are missing the point I got the point. . it was kind of heavy handed in a Spike Lee kind of way the problem is. . all these Details are GLARING DISTRACTIONS to the story You suspend your disbeleif but some common sense things or some continuity are required You cannot have an Alien JUMP OVER A HOUSE yet struggle with a door In Fact, One could argue that the whole purpose of the aliens was to come to earth to give Gibson's character back his faith because THEY DIDN'T *DO* ANYTHING ELSE We heard of kidnapping a few folx. . but that was about it M Night's character in that film . . what was he all about??? The Doctor trapped the thing in his pantry . . . and drives off I *wanted* to like the movie. . I like M Night but these minor details were like drops of rain . . after a while they were a hurricane of unexplained confusing crap Rocket River
