Who the heck are you talking about? Think, man! You are telling me we went to high school with a murderer. I need to know who it is. I searched the Chronicle website on some keywords and came up with nothing.
Yeah, he was a year younger than us -- you would definitely remember the name and his face. If I could just remember his name I would post a link or two about him... every time I do a search I get Andrea Yates or the girl who killed her 4 friends.
Finally found someone tonight that remembered this -- the guys name is John Drew... has an Austin connection as well. Spoiler Jonathan David Drew: Who worked as a League City mechanic. November 29, 1998 upon pulling over Drew a policeman approached his vehicle, found Tina Flood a 23 year old waitress slumped over in his passenger seat. Drew remained clam while pulling out his proof of insurance and asked the policeman what was wrong. As if there was nothing happening or out of the ordinary. Tina Flood had been sexually assaulted, beaten and died two days later in the hospital of a massive head injury. Tina Flood had befriended Drew at a Seabrook nightclub, he offered her a ride but he turned violent soon afterwards. In October 1998 Drew attempted abduction of a League City woman from her apartment on the infamous Calder Drive. Drew grabbed her wrist and attempted to pull her into her car but she freed herself. Then he broke a glass bottle, seized her again cutting her in the process. The woman once again freed herself by kicking his knee and escaped from him. In November 22, 1997 another League City woman identified Drew along with an still unidentified man had forced their way into her car. They kidnapped her as she sat in her car at a traffic light at Calder and Main in League City, the men threatened to kill her. Drew and his accomplice took her to an unknown trailer, where they sexually assaulted her for several hours. A search of his parents home in League City, the police discovered a vial containing many human teeth. Drew also is suspected of several other murders and sexual assaults. He was charged with capital murder but jurors convicted him on the lesser charge, finding they did not believe Drew planned to kill Tina Flood. He was convicted of killing Tina Flood in December of 1998 and later the sexual assault as well, he was handed a life sentence. Drew had lived in Austin and has been investigated for similar crimes in the state capital, where two escorts accused him of forcing them into sex. Tina Flood - Age 23, Caucasian, blonde. November 29, 1998 a police officer pulled over Jonathan David Drew and found Flood beaten and barely alive in his front passenger seat. A waitress, she had befriended Drew at a night club. She died days later and he was convicted for her death. Drew is also suspected of several sexual assaults and it is speculated he could be responsible for the slaying of Jessica Lee Cain. A search of his former home in League City, where his parents still lived produced a vial containing several human teeth. League City is the Galveston city where the infamous "Killing Fields" are located. Where 4 other victims have were discovered between 1983 and 1991. Though his age would not match the time line of the "Killing Fields" murders but he did rape other women in the area. http://psu-sk.tripod.com/frames/i45-victims.html http://psu-sk.tripod.com/frames/i45arrests.html
Here's an old Texas Monthly article about this story. Too long to post it here as a cut and paste. I had to register to read it, but it was free. http://www.texasmonthly.com/1999-10-01/feature4.php
What's the talk of this place (Killing Fields) down in League City? I really never heard much about it until Drew was arrested in 1998 - even then they didn't really connect him to the location, but it seems like he would be a major suspect. It's weird IMO the way they've investigated all these murders.
It's screening In Competiton at this years Venice Film Festival. So it has some artistic merit. Looks really good. Support Houston people. Even our serial killers. <iframe width="560" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2rmzw0YBpWs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I lived in LC for 18 years, went to CCHS, and never really heard a peep about it. The movie makes it seem more like Texas City (maybe just because it's a better name and has the word "Texas"?) Movie does look good, if somewhat typical for the genre.
Holy crap. I looked up the address and I used to go running past there when I was in highschool. I lived on the other side of I45 but just not very far away. "Internet poster B-Bob then became a leading suspect."
Houston is the fourth largest city in America, with about a zillion miles of industrial roads and waterways. It would be shocking if we didn't have serial killers, probably a bunch of them.
After reading the wiki on Dean Corll, posted right before my inquiry, it is clear this is what you were referring to, and I should probably read threads more closely.
I lived in Clear Lake for many years and it was talked about quite a bit. An ex girlfriend lived right off of Calder road by the fields. Interesting stories, wonder what Hollywood is gonna do with it.
You should have stayed longer, Bob. I know of two areas (the trailer says three), one off Calder Rd. in League City and one along I-45 south of Texas City. The League City site is the more famous one, with many clues and odd items, such as the way the bodies were buried in a circle. It was as if the killer would return and sit in the circle. Several footpaths were found in the area that suggested this. I've lived in the area all my life, and we were warned repeatedly about this and the Dean Corll killings.
Wait, I think I'm missing some info. I've only read about the area in League City where four bodies have been found. The movie trailer says Texas City, and over 60 bodies? Did they stretch the facts out that much, or am I just under researched? I like movies like this that are purely factual, but this looks good.
