This man is the 3rd best american director of his generation. Behind only Wes Anderson and Tarantino. He is an auteur in the French new wave tradition. I always look forward to an M Night film.
Coen brothers, Aronofsky, Anderson, Fincher? What did you enjoy out of what he's made after Unbreakable?
Cohens, Lee, Fincher, Sodebergh belong to an older generation. Aronofsky has not lived up the promise of Requiem. Lady in the Water was very underrated. Certainly more clever than The Prestige.
OK. Now that I have this benchmark . . . I can leave this conversation We simply have different tastes. Prestige >>> The Crap in the Water. Rocket River
LOL, oK. M. Night is 1 1/2 hit wonder. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable and the rest are a POS. The only reason people are flocking to his movies because they are still looking for the Sixth Sense experience.
6th Sense was the last American movie that truly scared me. Maybe the fact that I was still in middle school and very vulnerable when it came out had an effect. That alone is the only reason I was able to force myself to see M Night Weslayan movies. Every person has a breaking point tho, and I may be reaching it soon with Weslayan's movies if Airbender doesn't prove to be at least a B+ movie.
8% on the Tomatometer right now!!! M Night with another disaster of a movie.. I don't know if I want to go seek this one out now...
Well that is based on only 28 reviews all being critics probably since the movie is actually set to release on July 2nd. But if the number is that low for the critics I am sure it won't do any better with the movie goers.
Roger Ebert KILLED this movie in his review and you can tell he knows what he is talking about when it comes to anime, the airbender nickelodeon cartoon, etc. I was excited about this movie... then I saw who was directing it because his 7 year old dressed up as a character for Halloween... then I saw who was playing Ang... then I saw that they slapped 3D on it at the last minute. Hey M.Knight, just go kick my dog and get it over with will you?
Ebert killed this film big time and i am not surprised manoj ****ed up again when will the studios stop giving him the opportunities to do films?
I'm not surprised. This was doomed from the beginning. Great animation rarely translates well to live action.
When will they ever learn? This could've been all done in CGI animation. Oh, well. Hollywood is pretty good a rebooting stuff these days. Expect an animation reboot in 3 yrs.
I pick up a similar vibe from you calling him Manoj as when Whoever* made a point of using the president's middle name in a D&D thread *Manoj Hussein?
Amazing that Shyamalan made one of the best movies ever and now every thing he does is an absolute joke. He is the very definition of one hit wonder.
What's next? Wonder Woman with pants? Or MKS's "Joy Luck Club - The Sequel" with Jen Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mylie Cyrus? I agree with Ebert, the miscasting is a distraction to someone who watched the cartoon series. Hope they find a new director for the next two movies.
