i get a feeling that this indian guy is gonna mess up this awesome cartoon/anime series yeah manoj shyamalan sucks and I hate how he plasters his name all over this when he had nothing to do with its writing or creation or anything
I've been marathon-ing my way through the series in the last 2 days. What a fantastic story. - Putting Book 1 into a 2 hour movie is going to be really difficult to do I really hope Shyamalan doesn't screw it up. I'm already somewhat disappointed with the casting.
the Avatar series is probably the best show I've seen in a long time, and I saw it well over a year ago.
I don't see how the movie can compare to the series. It was a great animated series. I wish it would have had more seasons, but I guess it would have lost something if they had.
Agreed The movie looks interesting but on the verge to fail. Am I the only one that sees the kid in the movie and see the kid from The Golden Child?
except the golden child kid was actually asian i believe.. they made a white kid try to look asian.. the fight scenes look decent but the movie has FAIL written all over it.. m night shalamanyan or watever the F his name is makes crappy ever since 6th sense
I didnt mean Dev Patel I meant shyamalan the guy had one great movie and has made several disasters since I dont understand how hollywood keeps giving him a pass. it has annoyed me to no end how every trailer/ad/tv spot i have seen has his name all over the title and all when he had nothing to do with the story he is just a director and he isnt at the same level of directing as others (spielberg, scorcese, cameron, scott) to attach his name to a film like that.
Disagree. I thought Unbreakable was awesome, and his best of the bunch. Signs wasn't bad. The Sixth Sense wasn't as good as folks made it out to be. The Village was OK- I didn't love it but I did enjoy it. Hollywood is giving him a break because all of his movies, except Lady in the Water, make a profit. link I think he gets a bad rap because his movies were clever and his fanbase was smart...and you can't keep a bitter bunch of nerds happy forever (including myself here). This movie will do well- it's main target audience is a bunch of kids who don't give a damn about the director or cast.
Unbreakable was good, though I hate how he has everyone so stone faced and every piece of dialogue so heavy handed. I've only seen 6th sense, signs, unbreakable and village. It seems the equivalent of that for this movie will be to have every bending duel be in slow-mo. And if the fire guys are going to be middle Eastern (which screws up the uncle figure), why are the water guys white? And I don't know how I'll feel about this if the humor's cut out of it. Assuming that most comic bits will have to be cut if they plan to squeeze a whole season into acceptable movie length.
I worked on the video game for this movie http://www.videogamer.com/news/the_last_airbender_movie_gets_a_game.html Buy it for your kids, nieces and nephews so I can get a big fat bonus. Then I'll donate some of it to the tip jar. Help me help you
He had a few good ones, its just that his movies have progressively become more and more terrible over time. Sixth Sense was great, Unbreakable was underrated in my opinion, Signs was ok and then by the time the Village rolled around I thought he lost it. And then he made that awful global warming movie and that fairy tale movie. Yeah, no reason why he should get any press anymore, he's still riding the Sixth Sense coattails.
M Night Weslayan should be directing trailers instead of movies at this point. His last few were disgustingly disappointing... and I didn't even watch it in theaters. I was pissed I wasted so much time downloading them. Maybe he should take his act and do bollywood movies. I think he'd be great for that. Erase all the singing, dancing and running around the field in the rain and make a fake horror Hindi film.
I'm obviously in the minority here, but I'm expecting a good movie. If it sticks to the story, I don't see how it could not be entertaining. The earth bending looks sick. Think of how difficult it would be to translate an epic cartoon series featuring a bald a 12 year old to a summer blockbuster film. I think what made the cartoon so good was the fact that despite the young cast of characters there were some pretty deep themes weaved into the series.
so i saw the new trailer before Iron Man two...looks fine til the very end says written, produced, directed by M. Night Shyamalan man can this guy's ego get any bigger? he may have written the screenplay for this movie but even that is a stretch to say it was all original material from him if I were the guys who creatd Avatar I would be upset that he put the "written" by part in there. I am going to say a good portion of the movie going audience who do not know about the cartoon will assume he was responsible for the story. shocked they would let him do that still sort upset this movie and its subsequent sequels are being made there are somethings i feel that are better left animated/in comics and this is one of them. I'll probably go see it still but judging from the initial castings and all I do not have high expectations
One is Bad Guys and the other is Good Guys I saw the Trailer and it looks pretty decent. M Night is adverting that he Wrote, Produced and Directed it [I too don't like how he plasters his name on everything esp this . .. saying he wrote it is fine but he needs to specify he wrote the screen play and not the source material - sorry that irks me for some reason] Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were good Each movie he has done is worse than the one before it though What he considers clever was pretty much obvious by time it comes to Signs, The village, Lady in the Water and The ridiculousness known as THE HAPPENING.
