Poke fun all you want but this is again part of Joss Whedon's genius. If you read comics you would know that this is 100% ACCURATE. Don't believe me? I remember it clear as day. Heroes Reborn F4 #1. Amongst the first few pages Jim Lee has Sue Storm's ass right in your face as she lays on all fours. The caption? "Oops, lost my footing"
If somehow Nolan decided to convert TDKR to 3D post production I'm pretty sure it could beat that number. I'm willing to bet that the 200+ million Avengers racked up was due to to expensive 3D ticket prices. It would be more fair to compare both based on just ticket sales alone or regular and Imax screenings.
The final tally was actually $207M. Avengers kept outpacing the projections - they estimated $160-$170M based off of Friday. I don't see Batman outdoing Avengers for a few reasons: -It's not going to have the same mainstream appeal as Avengers had - this was a hit across the demographics, largely because of the humor TDKR will lack. Avengers managed to draw 40% women. I doubt that happens for DKR. -There's the curse of the third installment of a franchise -Bane can't possibly excite folks the way Joker did, even if he does "break the bat" We'll know after another weekend or two, Avengers should be getting a slew of repeat business. I'm looking forward to seeing Batman 3. I think it'll do extremely good business. But I think it's going to struggle to match the sales of Dark Knight, let alone Avengers.
The point about IMAX and 3D will be very relevant as well. Avengers uses CGI as one of its main appeals, Batman will be more about the story, so far more people will be watching it in 2D and won't pay the extra price. Batman will have to be one of the best films of all time to even try and get up to 200 mill.
Not bad, but not exceptionally good as some of you were saying. I think a lot of you just haven't watched superhero movies that've come out the past decade. I give it a solid 8. Hulk had the best moments, and everyone else did their part with much appreciated humor sprinkled in here and there.
I'll take bets that DKR doesn't outdo the Avengers opening weekend box office. The public has spent it's Superhero load for the summer.
I liked Norton better as Bruce Banner, though the Avengers version is probably more accurate. As for the Hulk, I like his appearance in both, but preferred the personality in The Avengers.
One thing that I have noticed is that the 2012 Hulk is the only one that looks like the actor that played Banner. Also loved the Lou Ferrigno cameo in The Incredible Hulk.
I agree with this, I don't think it'd outdo Avengers in terms of money. I do think it will out do the 93% on Rotten Tomatoes though.
That will be close, IMO. I think the fanboys may skew it through to winning, though. Just to clarify, I do think that DKR will be a big hit. It's Batman.
I, too, like Norton better as Bruce. What was the reason they couldn't keep a single actor to play Bruce again? Was it $$?
