I really don't feel like writing a long review... It was worth seeing. If you like superhero movies, you'll enjoy this. I wasn't a fan of Thor or Cpt America (sorry for repeating myself, seclusion), but they did well in this movie. I'll be honest, I dont know much about The Avengers comic (I'm more into xmen, batman, superman comics). The plot was rather weak and straight forward, I think they could have done a bit more with it. But, I guess they needed more time to introduce all the heros and let them interact with eachother. I'm sure the average person (attending this movie) would rather see Thor and Ironman knock eachother around a bit than have a deep plot, so it makes sense.
Spoiler What? There was another guy?? I might have confused the costumes since they all looked the same, but the guy who spoke to Loki and poked him in the head was different than the guy after the credits? Oh I just remembered, there was one thing that I wasn't a fan of, and that's the costumes. I couldn't get over Loki's and his boss' costumes. I understand in the comics and cartoons the costumes are extravagant, but I think they could have made them better. However it doesn't really make any dent on how awesome this movie was. Will watch again. And probably get the dvd. I wonder if they'll sell a collector's edition with all the superhero movies that made up the Avengers.
Spoiler Completely different guys, yes. The "Other" (that's what they're calling him in wikipedia...didn't catch his name when I watched) opened up the movie speaking to Thanos who had his back turned. The Other then spoke to Loki basically telling him not to fail. At the end the Other was kneeling before Thanos in humility talking to him explaining his failure...then Thanos finally turned around and smiled. Thanos didn't speak at all during the movie. I didn't have an issue with the costumes...he's supposed to be a god. They did tone them down when on the ship and what not, however. There weren't that many times he was in his full uniform.
My mistake, sorry. I missed the first 15 minutes of the movie due to getting popcorn for my group. I had hoped I didn't miss anything important, but apparently I did. Another good excuse to watch this again (as if sheer awesomeness isn't enough).
No need to apologize. They really opened it well, and the beginning reminded me of the start of Masters of the Universe. I might be the only one on that, but it really felt epic. I might go again tonight or tomorrow.
FFFUUUUUU! damn you popcorn! Master of the Universe was the shiznit. Thanks for reminding me of that movie. I just remembered. I couldn't help but giggle when all the superheroes were out fighting, Hawkeye with his explosive arrows, Capt. with his superhuman strength and shield. Then Black Widow comes out with 2 school girl pistols. LOL. Hawkeye is the shiznit as well /random
Black Widow came off pretty weak during the movie to me. And maybe I just missed it due to the 3D but, it didn't seem like she used any gadgets during the movie. Am I off on that one? I will say Johansson (sp?) did a better job of acting that I expected her to. Her lack of an accent really bothered me though. She was a normal human though, I guess what can you really expect her to do during an alien invasion and versus a god. Spoiler I really wish Hawkeye wasn't hypnotized almost the entire movie. I always really liked the character. He definitely had his moments, he owned Loki at the end. <3 Cap. One of my favorite scenes had to have been Iron Man diving between everyone (showing all of them fighting at once essentially), landing, then bouncing his lasers off Cap's shield. It immediately made me want to go play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.
I loved it when Hulk went apes#it on Loki...It was cool how they presented Capt. America - kinda funny he is basically from the same makeup/origination as the Hulk but with only .0005% of the juice and none of the "always angry" attitude By far Ironman takes the movie to a higher level, or Downey Jr.'s charisma actually
Saw it today and I thought it was a really fun movie. Probably the best ACTION superhero brought to screen to date and that's how you do it with a budget. The story on the other hand was just decent enough to drive the movie but not enough to make me want to sit through a second time in the theater for this movie. They did a great job on Black Widow making her kicking ass pretty believable and I also like the way they handle Captain America super human power sequences. They should give X-Men a larger budget. Not my favorite super hero to date but the actions and some visuals were top notch but formulated story line was only the real downer. I'll give it a 7.5/10. I guessed I was the only guy in the theater that notice and laugh at an out of place cameo from Harry Dean Stanton. I just knew he was going to say something alone that line and surprised and ecstatic that he said it.
Spoiler I thought one of her best moments was during her interrogation of Loki. Her ability to manipulate Loki and extract his play out of him is her primary job. It was believable that she could sell SHIELD out, but the whole time, she was playing Loki. She's a spy after all, not a super soldier. And agree with you about that scene with Iron Man and Cap. The rotating camera on that fight scene was very dynamic, visuals were great. Probably my favorite picture from the whole movie.
Oh yeah, another great part about the Black Widow scene I mentioned is when the camera angle goes behind her and shows off her assets.
Oh, kudos to Joss Whedon who I'm pretty sure saw Marvel: Ultimate Alliance game trailers. I always though that's how you make a super hero movie when watching Marvel: Ultimate Alliance game trailers.
Oh the 3D become totally useless/normal after an hour in. I think when your eyes gotten use to the 3D it become flat after that or you hardly notice it's even there any more. It's always felt that way with every movies that I have watched in 3D.
I've seen about 4 movies in 3D and after every one, with the exception of Avatar, I've considered it a waste of time and decided never to pay for it again.
Just got back from the seeing the movie and thoroughly entertaining. Great special effects, fights and plenty of humor to lighten it. I didn't feel though it was in the same class as The Dark Knight or even X-Men First Class or Spiderman II. The story seemed kind of light and largely dependent on fanboy knowledge. Spoiler What is Captain America's shield made out of? I didn't see Captain America, The First Avenger, and never was much of a Captain America fan as a kid so am trying to figure out how he can survive a full on blow from Thor with Mjolnor and deflect energy blast from Loki's magic staff.
I thought the 3d was very good in Avengers and I was very aware of it during the battle scenes. Just to add two other things I liked a lot about the Avengers was Scarlett Johansen looks incredible in this movie and several shots of her could go in the "Best Ass" thread. Cobie Smulders also looked great too as a Shield Agent. Hooray for form fitting uniforms! I am not a fan of How I met Your Mother but might start checking it out more.
